Minutes—August 8, 2019
Members Present—Christina Hollerbach-Simmons (chair), Mike Smith
Others Present—Alicia Clarke, Museum Curator, Brigitte Stephenson, Assistant Curator, Art Woodruff,
Commission Liaison
Meeting was called to order by the chair at 3:05 p.m.
Items discussed:
Name of Committee—the name designated by the Advisory Board was programming. Responsibilities
include helping museum staff plan and host programs, marketing of programs, and marketing of the
museum in general.
Sunshine Law Considerations — discussion of requirements of Government in the Sunshine. Clarification
that individual members can work independently as volunteers. Discussion of items that may be voted
on in the future are not permitted outside of a noticed meeting. The primary goal of the subcommittees
is to provide a pool of volunteers to work with the museum staff.
Christina Hollerbach-Simmons will work directly with Brigitte Stephenson to provide Facebook Insights
reports to board meetings
Proposed programs— the museum will be the lead organization for programs. Advisory board will
support with volunteers. The Sanford Historical Society will support with volunteers and/or associated
programs.
1) Sanford Gothic—Saturdays in October
2) Celerybration— social media contest to grow historic Sanford celery, followed by cooking
demonstrations. Nov — March
3) Smith's Barroom Challenge (Historical Society Event) — April
4) "Gertie" by journalist Kathryn Smith. Cocktail party and book signing—January 31
5) Courtship through Time. Historic love letters exhibit and event — February 8
6) Student scavenger hunt/dead media day — future event or possible field trip activity
7) Baseball— Mike Smith will work on ideas to coincide with Spring Training and River Rats season.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:35 p.m.
