Security
Systems
NTRODUCTION
FOCUS 100 is a microprocessor -based security & fire
system for monitoring up to 48 points of burglar, fire,
hold-up and/or supervisory protection. The FOCUS
100 System also has the capability to control up to 88
output functions.
The FOCUS 100 System can be used for all types of
central station service (including transmission of
passcode data). Plug-in communication modules en-
able compatibility with all types of ADT receiving
equipment.
The FOCUS 100 System is primarily controlled via
two independent keyless remote control panels, one
for each group of burglar alarm points. Up to five pan-
els can be parallel for each group.
FEATURES
The system will annunciate all alarms individually at
the central station, providing operators with the type
of alarm received, and identifying the exact location
of the alarm.
Two-way communication capability between the cen-
tral station and FOCUS 100, providing for remote
programming of the system.
Choice of plug-in communication modules for inter-
face capability with central station. Communicates
via digital FSK communicator, AC Multiplex, Direct
Wire or McCulloh communication modules.
Monitors status and provides individual annuncia-
tion for up to 48 points of protection utilizing interro-
gate -response type Point Interface Devices (PID's).
Quad trunk cable, connecting the control unit with all
PID's serves as a premises security communication
link (with internal line multiplexing), as well as pow-
ering sensors from a central power supply (with
standby battery).
Capability for daytime annunciation in both BA
groups.
Security points can be separated into two groups for
separate signal handling (such as being turned on
and off separately). The second group can be turned
on/off from the Remote Touchpad Unit which con-
nects to the quad trunk.
Multiple schedule —each of Burglar Alarm groups
can have 2 openings and closings per day.
Provides a real time clock that allows for pro-
grammed closing schedules, closing reminder and a
no close warning.
Optional printer for all activities will be provided. The
FOCUS 100 will have a 500 line buffer capability.
FOCUS 100 Keypad 7182-206
Control Unit Cabinet 7182-203
Simplified wiring of cables utilizing mass termination
techniques.
Commonality with other levels of FOCUS Systems,
readily enabling future expansion to higher level
FOCUS Systems.
Continuous supervision and unique identification of
faults associated with low battery voltage, grounds,
internal and external communication.
Optional daytime annunciator is a remote listen -
only device which monitors the status of 8 zones of
protection.
Nonvolatile passcodeaccess code —validated open-
ings and closings (with three levels of customer code
priority available). Code holders are individually iden-
tified at the Central Station.
OPERATION
The basic system configuration is shown in Figure 1.
Sensors are installed at the various points of protection,
and each sensor is connected to a Point Interface De-
vice (PID) via a quad branch cable, which has two wires
for furnishing operating power to the sensor and two
wires which serve as the continuously -supervised end
of line resistor (EOLR) protection loop. A main quad
trunk cable is run from the 7182-203 Control Unit, with
all PID's in the system connected to it in parallel. This
4-conductor trunk cable can supply DC power from the
control unit to all connected sensors and also serves as
a communications link between the control unit and the
PID's.
The system is controlled by two independent burglar
alarm (BA) remote operating panels —7182-206.
Each sensor in the system requires its own PID. The
PID contains electronic circuitry which provides the
means for monitoring sensor loop status, communicat-
ing this status to the control unit, and controlling power
to the sensors.
Types of Protection
The unique characteristics for security protection as-
signments of the PID's are programmed into the control
unit via a Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM).
Note: Point number assignment Operating Point 19
need not be in any Panel
particular order. BA2 Sensor
7182-203
Each sensor and its associated PID are considered a
point of protection, and each point is defined by the type
of protection involved:
1. Burglar alarm.
2. Fire alarm.
3. Holdup alarm.
4. Supervisory
both sprinkler and industrial monitoring).
DESCRIPTION
The FOCUS 100 System can be used for central station
connected installations requiring up to 48 points of bur-
glar alarm, holdup alarm, fire alarm and supervisory
protection, and is capable of commanding on -off
devices for up to 68 additional control functions.
The Control Unit includes a cover unit containing a con-
trol board, a PROM board, nonvolatile memory, and a
transmission module, plus a backshell unit containing a
power supply board with connectors for field wiring con-
nections, tamper switches, and a standby battery. The
remote operating panel(s) contain a point status dis-
play, a sounder and a pressure -sensitive touchpad.

VANE TYPE WATERFLOW SWITCH FOR SERVICE PRESSURE UP TO 450 PSI
MINIMUM FLOW RATE FOR ALARM - 4 TO 10 GPM
The Model VSR—D is a vane type waterflow switch
for use on wet sprinkler systems that do not have an
alarm check valve. These units may also be used as
sectional waterflow detectors on large sprinkler sys-
tems.
Sizes available: 2", 2'/2", 3", 3'/z", 4", 5", 6", 8".
10" SIZE AVAILABLE FOR SER-
VICE PRESSURES UP TO 250 PSI.
INSTALLATION: These devices may be mounted in
a horizontal or vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they
should be installed on the top side of the pipe where
they will be accessible. The units should not be
installed within 6 inches of a fitting which changes
the direction of the waterflow or within 24 inches
of a gate valve or drain.
Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a
circular saw in a slow speed drill. The 2 inch and 2%
inch devices require a V/4 inch hold;. all other sizes
require a 2 inch hole. #1
Clean the inside of the pipe of all growth or other
material for a distance equal to the pipe diameter on
side of the hole.
do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so that the
arrow on the saddle points in the direction of the
waterflow. Install the saddle strap and tighten nuts
alternately to an eventual 50 FT.-LBS. of torque. See
reverse side of this sheet.
The vane must not rub the inside of the pipe or
bind in any way.
FLOW ADJUSTMENT: The small coil spring holds
the vane in the normal position against the direction
of the waterflow. It can be adjusted if necessary to
restore the retard fully, but do not over -tighten, as
this will decrease the sensitivity of the device.
RETARD ADJUSTMENT: These units have an adjust-
able pneumatic retard to prevent false alarm due to
water surge. The retard is adjustable from 0 to approx-
imately 90 seconds.
CONTACTS: The Model VSR---D has two sets of
form C (S. 1'r. D. T.) contacts rated 10 amperes 125 or
250 volts A. C.; '/2 ampere 125 volts D. C. '/4 ampere
250 volts D.C.; 2.50 Amp. @ 0-30V.DC Resistive.
TESTING: Operation of the unit is checked by open-
ing the "Inspection Test Valve" at the end of the
Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; sprinkler line.
