The City of Sanford requires payment of a plan review fee. A copy of the executed contract is required in order
to calculate a plan review charge. If the executed contract is not submitted, we reserve the right to calculate the
plan review fee based on past permit activity levels. Should calculated charges exceed the documented
construction value when the executed contract is submitted, credit will be applied to your permit fees when the
permit is released.

SCHUCO'SLIM V SOLAR THERMAL COLLECTOR SYSTEM INSTALLATION NOTES:
1. This drawing illustrates the installation requirements for the Slim V Solar Thermal Collectors on buildings in Florida 60 -feet or less in
height and at roof angles from flat up to 45 degrees.
2. The Slim V Solar Thermal Collectors have been tested to the following parameters.
a. 2.007 FBC Building and Residential - structural test specification ASTM E330-02.
i. Design Pressure +/- 45 psf
ii. Supported with two (2) ezRail WS rails.
iii. Test Report No. CTLA 1964W by Certified Testing Labs, Orlando FL.
3. See Sheet 3 for Schuco Slim V Solar Thermal Collector system "Design Pressure" and "Basic Wind Speed" notes.
4. The engineering upon which this drawing is based has evaluated the installation components and hardware currently provided by Schuco
(the OEM) and listed in the Bill of Materials (BOM) and found them to meet the requirements of the 2007 Florida Building Code.
5. There shall be no substitution of other vendor materials without prior approval of this engineer through Schuco.
a. This requirement does not preclude valid engineering prepared by a licensed Professional Engineer supporting an
alternate installation or alternate installation components as deemed acceptable by the Jurisdiction Having Authority.
6. Plumbing shall be per Drawing Sheet 1.2007 Florida Plumbing Code shall be adhered to. Particular attention shall be given
to the protection against overpressure and freezing, per Florida Mechanical Code, chapter 12.
a. Plumbing installation is outside the scope if this engineer's evaluation.
b. This engineer accepts no responsibility for conformance to the 2007 Florida Plumbing Code.
7. This engineer has determined that the equipment, hold-down hardware and fasteners supplied by Schuco will withstand hurricane force
winds up to those depicted in tables on Sheets 4 & S.
8. Lag screw fasteners (Item No. 3) that hold the solar collector system to the underlaying roof substrate (truss or rafter) shall meet the
following requirements:
a. 3/8" diameter minimum Lag Screws,
b. lag screws shall be minimum AISI 304 Stainless Steel,
c. shall be of sufficient length to reach at least 2-1/2" of solid embedment into the substrate receiving the point.
d. Installed such that the minimum edge distance to the end of rafters, beams or trusses shall not be less than 3".
e. drill pilot holes in accordance with the following to avoid wood splitting (2005 NDS for wood).
L Shank - 3/8" diameter
ii. Root -9/32" diameter
f. substrate (rafter or truss) shall be minimum Spruce -Pine -Fir with Specific Gravity of 0.42.
L other species acceptable if Specific Gravity meets or exceeds 0.42.
9. When lag screw hitting the center of truss or rafter cannot be assured use option (1) or option(2) as noted below.
1. "J" bolt grabbing the truss / rafter. The "J" bolt shall meet the following requirements:
a. 3/8" diameter minimum,
b. bolt shall be minimum AISI 304 Stainless Steel,
c. shall be of sufficient length to fully engage the bottom of the rafter or joist member,
d. drill pilot holes in accordance with the following to avoid wood splitting (2005 NDS for wood).
L Shank - 3/8" diameter
2. "Spanner mount" bridging/blocking between rafters. The "spanner mount" shall meet the following requirements:
a. constructed of material identical to the structural framing, e.g. 2x6 rafters require 2x6 spanners
b.. ez Standoff to be fastened to "spanner mount" using 3/8" diameter minimum bolts or all thread (AISI 304 Stainless Steel)
c. blocking shall be attached to structural framing members using no less than 16P common wire nails per "spanner mount'; 4 per
side for a total of eight (8)
d. nail edge distance = 0.6"
e. nail spacing = 0.75"
10. Four (4) ez L Standoffs (Item No. 6) -will be used to support each panel as follows.
a. For single panel installation using two (2) ez Rails (Item No. 7):
i. As depicted in Section H -H, a minimum of two (2) ez L Standoffs (Item No. 6) will be installed on each ez Rails (Item No. 7)
spaced -as shown in Section C -C for a rafter spacing of 24".
ii. If the rafter spacing is less than 24", additional ez L Standoffs (Item No. 6) will be installed on each ez Rails (Item No. 7) to
maintain a minimum standoff to rail edge distance of 12" nominal (See Section C -C).
iii. See Detail A for ez Slim Collector Clamp (Item No. 1)- installation to ez Rail (Item No. 7) using Cap Screw (Item No. 2).
Four (4) clamps per collector.
iv. This will result in a minimum of four (4) supports per panel duplicating the as -tested conditions.
b. For multiple panel installation using two (2) ez Rails (Item No. 7):
L As depicted in Section H -H, a minimum of two (2) ez L Standoffs (Item No. 6) will be installed on each ez Rails (Item No. 7)
spaced as shown in Section C -C for a rafter spacing of 24".
ii. If the rafter spacing is less than 74", additional ez L Standoffs (Item No. 6) will be installed on each ez Rails (Item No. 7) to
maintain a minimum standoff to rail edge distance of 12" nominal (See Section C -C).
iii. See Detail A & B for ez Slim Collector Clamp (Item No. 1) installation to ez Rail (Item No. 7) using
Cap Screw (Item No. 2). Four (4) clamps per collector.
iv. This will result in a minimum of four (4) supports per panel duplicating the as -tested conditions.
11. Installer shall adhere to requirements of FBC Chapter 1S (roofing) and best practices of the NRCA roofing and waterproofing manual to
ensure that the solar installation does not cause roof leaks at initial installation or as the system "ages".

The Slim V Solar Thermal Collectors have been evaluated to the BASIC WIND SPEED (mph) parameters shown in the

3. Figure 6-3 shown on Sheet 3 is from ASCE 7-05 and is based on Components and Cladding - Method 1 Design Wind
Pressures.
4. Tables shown on Sheets 4 & 5 are based on a comparison of the tested Design Pressure of -the solar
collectors to the Design Wind Pressures summarized in Figure 6-3 of ASCE 7-05 using the following parameters.
Parameters exceeding those below will require additional evaluation by a licensed design professional.
