KIND OF WORK
This is technical inspection work in enforcing compliance with City codes and ordinances.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs field inspections of new and existing construction to ensure compliance with building,
electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related codes and ordinances. Issues notices of
violations as appropriate. Discusses nature of violations with contractors, subcontractors etc.
Makes reports of inspections. Enforces other municipal codes in addition to codes pertaining
to construction. Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of modern construction and inspection techniques. Thorough knowledge
of standard building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related codes and ordinances.
Knowledge of the City's zoning codes and ordinances. Knowledge of geography of the City.
Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications. Ability to enforce codes
tactfully, firmly and impardally. Ability to cope with cases of extreme human behavior.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Ability to climb, walk and descend uncompleted structures, scaffolding and ladders.
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ~ ~:
Must be HSG or GED equivalent. Must have sufficient education/training/experience at time
of appointment to meet the requirements of Florida Statute 468 for certification in a
minimum of two (2.) inspection disciplines of the following four (4): "Building", "Plumbing",
"Electrical", or "Mechanical". each area of inspection within two years of appointment as a
Code Compliance Inspector 1. Must possess and maintain valid Florida Drivers License.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed independendy under the limited supervision of the Building Official and/or
Deputy Building Official and is reviewed through reports and other documents, occasional
conferences and on the basis of results achieved.

KIND OF WORK
This is responsible advanced technical and administrative work in assisting the Building DMsion
of the Community Development Department.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist the Building Official in the activities of the building, code enforcement, and licensing
division. Answers complaints and questions from the public regarding code enforcement,
building codes, zoning, construction techniques, site plans, and other related matters. Suggests
items related to budget, performs building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical ~ gas inspections.
Performs minimum housing and condemnation inspections and presents cases to Code
Enforcement Board. Compiles lists of condemned propercy to present to the City
Commission. Performs other code enforcement inspections as needed. Recommends code
changes to the Building Official. Assists licensing division for compliance. Must be able to
perform duties of the Building Official when the Building Official is absent by issuing permits,
reviewing complex building and site plans, act as advisor to various boards and perform the
other duties of Building Official as required. :
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of standard building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and .other related
codes and ordinances. In depth understanding of all applicable City, County and State Codes,
laws and regulations germane to code enforcement and licensing. Thorough knowledge of
modern construction and inspection techniques. Thorough knowledge of minimum housing
code and zoning ordinances. Ability to maintain good public relations on regulatory matters
and resolve problems with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. Ability to present facts and
recommendations effectively, both orally and in writing. in the absence of the Building
Official, must have the ability to plan and coordinate the work of subordinates. In the absence
of the Building Official, must have the ability to plan, schedule and supervise employees in a
manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to walk and climb on
uncompleted structures, scaffolding and ladders. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with other city employees, the public and elected officials.
