AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO. 3361, AND ITS AMENDMENTS, AND ADOPTING AN AMENDED
CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN TO PROVIDE AUTHORIZATION AND ADDITION
OF ONE (1) PLANS EXAMINER POSITION AND ONE (1) ADDITIONAL CODE
COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR I POSITION IN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
DEPARTMENT, BUILDING DIVISION; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY,
CONFLICTS, AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, deems it
necessary to amend the existing Classification & Pay Plan to provide for the addition of
one (1) "Plans Examiner" and one (1) additional "Code Compliance Inspector I" positions
in the Community Development Department, Building Division.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The City Commission adopts statements above as if fully set forth
herein.
SECTION 2: That the terms of Ordinance No. 3361 and its amendments are hereby
amended.
SECTION 3: That Ordinance No. 3361 and its amendments be and the same are
hereby amended to provide that the revisions to the Classification & Pay Plan attached
hereto as Exhibit "A" are incorporated herein by reference and are made part of this
Ordinance as fully and completely as though it was fully set forth herein.
SECTION 4: SEVERABILITY. If any section or portion of a section of this ordinance
proves to be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to impair the validity,
forca or effect of any other section or part of this ordinance.
SECTION 4: Conflicts. That all ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
be and the same are hereby revoked.
SECTION 5: EFFECTIVE DATE. That this ordinance shall become effective after
its passage and adoption.

GRADE: 116 FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
KIND OF WORK
This is responsible advanced technical work in the review of construction drawings, plans
and specifications submitted to the building division to insure compliance with applicable
codes and ordinances.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Review plans and applications, commerdal and residential for thoroughness and compliance
with applicable codes and ordinances. Assists staff by handling customer questions and
works with them to resolve problems, performs field inspections when necessary. Performs
related duties as required and other work which may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, 61: ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of plans examining methods to determine compliance with various
building codes, ordinances, laws, and/or state statutes. Ability to read and interpret
blueprints and specifications. Ability to prepare reports; ability to maintain working
relationships with contractors, design professionals, employees and the general public.
Ability to deal tactfully, yet firmly and fairly with the public and provide good customer
service.
ESSENTIAL MINIHUH OUALIFICATIONS
High school grad or GED must posses (4) State of Florida Plans Examiner Standard
certifications or have the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire. 5 years experience as
building inspector, Builder, Engineer, Architect or Similar profession Certificate must be:
Standard Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Official / and/or Deputy
Building Official is reviewed through performance evaluations, conferences and reports.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be required to supervise Building Division office staff. May be assigned supervisory
responsibilities in the absence of the Deputy Building Official or Building Official if
certified by the State as a Building Code Administrator.
