The committee discussed the possibility of designing new marketing materials for the museum
including a new brochure with a new logo. Ms. Hollerbach has been in contact with Mr. Jerry
Sullivan of Parks and Recreation about this. Any design would have to fit within the City's style
guidelines and must be approved by City Hall. Mr. Ryan Handley volunteered to work on a
design for a logo for the museum. Ms. Clarke suggested Henry Sanford's monogram and the
celery columns on the museum. Ms. Clarke asked that consideration be given to designing a
rack card or something similar that could be produced in large quantities for the Welcome
Center and other tourist information facilities. Ms. Hollerbach will request the style kit from
City Hall. Ms. Clarke asked that the committee look for other municipal museums online to see
what type of marketing they do separate from their city.
The need for a template for social media and PowerPoint was discussed. Mr. Handley was
asked to develop a template. Ms. Clarke explained some of the limitations of working with a
government entity. For example, changes to the museum's website must fall within style
guidelines and be ADA compliant. She explained that many things are possible but it may take
longer than expected to complete some projects due to City procedures.
Ms. Hollerbach asked that events at the museum be posted as events on the City's Facebook
page. The committee asked that the museum staff post all upcoming events for 2020 on all
calendars as soon as possible.

Mr. Mike Smith suggested having more interactive events that may not have large attendance
but attract a lot of social media attention. He described a family field trip with a Henry Plant
theme which would be planned around a group travelling from the Sanford Museum to the
Henry Plant Museum in Tampa without using a car. Mr. Smith has tried this and found it
possible. It would have to be held Monday -Friday due to train schedules. The event could
include a Plant exhibit and social media posts about Plant and Sanford. He will speak with Jerry
Sullivan about liability issues for this type of field trip. Ms. Clarke suggested it could also be
planned with a printed guide and participants would find their own way. Ms. Hollerbach
suggested having a presentation at both sites. Mr. Smith will research details for this proposal.
Mr. Smith suggested a "slow roll" bicycle event that would travel to all four of the commission
districts. This would include the parks, Goldsboro Museum, and Hopper Academy. He said
Presidents Day would be ideal for this. He said this could attract hundreds of bicyclist. He will
work on this for 2021.
Ms. Clarke noted that the City has just agreed to purchase the vacant lot across from the
museum. This will provide additional parking for events. Ms. Hollerbach suggested having
something special for the grand opening of this parking lot and perhaps highlight the "Dairy
Queen" history (the last building on the lot was Dairy Queen in 1954).
The committee asked about International Museum Day in May. Ms. Clarke said the museum
has not had a special event to mark this day. Many people are now aware of the Smithsonian
Free Museum Day in September. The Sanford Museum does not benefit from this event
because it is aimed at museums that have an admission charge.
Ms. Hollerbach asked about school field trips. Ms. Clarke said this has been impossible in the
past because the public schools required all of a grade to attend a field trip at once. When the
Student Museum closed, the Museum of Seminole County History stepped up to take on school
field trips. Ms. Clarke suggested checking with the county museum about their field trip plans.
Ms. Hollerbach suggested an interactive field trip at multiple locations including inside and
outside the museum. She also suggested partnering with Serenity Towers. Such a field trip
could include living history and storytelling. Shuffleboard and nature talks were also suggested
as part of a field trip.
There was a brief discussion about making the best use of the Flat Henry figures.
Ms. Hollerbach said the museum webpage is somewhat easier to find now but there have been
some problems with updates from the IT Department. The new hyperlink has been approved
and the museum is now the first site on search engines.
Mr. Smith suggested an event in conjunction with the River Rats season at the stadium. The
committee discussed having a meet and greet with the players at the museum. This would be a
baseball themed event with special games and giveaways, including free tickets to a game
which could be given out in the Sports Gallery area to draw people inside. Some events could
be set up in the park in front of the museum. It was suggested that the event fall on a game
day to drive business to the stadium. The event would be held in late May. Mr. Smith said he
would speak with Jerry Sullivan about this idea.
Meeting adjourned at 6:34 Pm.
