However, in the 1990's the Museum expanded the collection to include the history of the greater Sanford area? Resulting in a large amount of items being donated to the Museum. With this extensive collection, the Museum is currently limited on space and in need of assistance from the Collections working group in determining what items should or should not be collected. Ms. Stephenson had two items to review with the group. Those items were a church plate from the First Presbyterian Church, which was open for 100 years and a cannonball. The cannonball was found in 1961 or 1964, near or possibly on the actual site of Ft. Mellon, this would have been during the time period of the second Seminole Wars. The Museum currently already has an identical church plate, therefore the group has decided not to accept the duplicate church plate. However they have decide to accepted the cannonball based on its relevance to Ft. Mellon and the provenance that accompanied it. It was discussed that the cannonball can be displayed with other similar cannonballs already in the collection. The group concluded the meeting with a tour of the the Museum to see all of the items that are in the Museum. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 PM. 1
