AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, AMENDING
CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE XXIII, OF THE CITY'S CODE OF ORDINANCES,
REGARDING THE CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD; DELETING SECTION
2-472(a) AND CREATING A NEW SECTION 2-472(a) TO CHANGE THE
APPOINTING AUTHORITY; CREATING A NEW SECTION 2-475 TO
CLARIFY THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CITIZEN'S
ADVISORY BOARD; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, CONFLICTS AND
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sanford finds it to be in the best
interest of the City to amend Chapter 2, Article XXIII, of the City's Code of Ordinances, by
deleting Section 2-472(a) entitled "Membership", and creating a new Section 2-472(a) to
change the appointing authority; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sanford finds it to be in the best
interest of the City to create a new Section 2-475 of Chapter 2, Article XXII I, of the City's
Code of Ordinances, to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Citizens' Advisory
Board.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
SAN FORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: Chapter 2, Article XXIII, Section 2-472(a) of the City's Code of
Ordinances is hereby deleted in its entirety and a new Section 2-472(a) is hereby created
and shall read as follows:
Section 2-472. Membership.
(a) The Chief of Police shall appoint a ten (10) member board from a cross
section of the community to serve without pay.
SECTION 2: Chapter 2, Article XXIII, Section 2-475 of the City's Code of
Ordinances is hereby created and shall read as follows:
Section 2-475. Roles and Responsibilities.
(a) The Citizens and law enforcement shall work together to improve and
enhance the operation and services of the Police Department and the
community.
(b) The partnership of citizens and law enforcement shall build and maintain
safe and pleasing neighborhoods.
(c) The Citizen's Advisory Board's shall be involved in citizens' complaints and
solutions, assisting the Police Department in efforts to maintain courteous
public relations and building public trust with the citizens.
(d) The Citizen's Advisory Board shall speak and visit with other City Boards
regarding crime and community related issues.
(e) The Citizen's Advisory Board shall be apprised of the police department's
crime statistics and departmental policies being revised or established.
(f) All Citizen's Advisory Board Members shall be required to undergo an
orientation process to familiarize themselves with all aspects of the Police
Department's operations. The Board Members shall be required to ride with
members of the Police Department and attend other training as needed to
remain familiar with operations and issues.
SECTION 3: SEVERABILITY If any section or portion of a section of this
Ordinance proves to be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to impair
the validity, force or effect of any other action or part of this Ordinance.
SECTION 4: CONFLICTS That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict
herewith be and the same are hereby revoked.
SECTION 5: EFFECTIVE DATE That this Ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon passage and adoption.
