SUBJECT: Request for Ground Sign in a RMOI zone located at 360 Mellonville Avenue
In reference to the above mentioned request, according to our City Code, Sec.
22-19: Administration, enforcement and penalties, you have the authority to
waive the requirements stating ground -signs are not allowed in RMOI zones.
(See Attached)
After looking at the sign itself, it would be required to be set back 9 ft.
from the property line. In,this case, I do not believe it would be a problem.
My only concern is, if we let one office do it, will all the rest want one too.

My associate and I are using an office currently located at the corner of Mellonville
Avenue and 4th. Street. I have been previously associated with Dr. Charles L. Park and we
have had our names on the front of the building in order to help our patients to locate the
site of the office. These names have frankly been difficult to see and many of our patients
still have difficulty in identifying our office. We would like to place a professional sign
in the front yard in order to alleviate this problem. I have had a diagram of the proposed
sign drawn up and I am including a copy of this diagram. I personally feel that it is a
professional appearing sign and will not detract from the appearance of the neighborhood.
In acquiring about how to obtain a proper permit I was told by Mr. Winn of the Zoning
Department that this is considered an RMOI zone, and there is a city ordinance allowing only
wall signs in this particular location. In our particular case a wall sign would be difficult
to see because the whole front of the building is enclosed by a front porch with overhanging
eave. I. would like to request.that you consider waving this city ordinance and allow us to
place this sign which would give our building proper identification.
