AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
AMENDING ARTICLE XIX, CIVIL SERVICE BOARD AND
CIVIL SERVICE SYSTEM, SECTION 2-328, SANFORD
CITY CODE, CLASSIFICATION OF POSITIONS TO
PROVIDE THAT THE CITY COMMISSION SHALL CLASSIFY
THE POSITIONS OF POLICE CHIEF, FIRE CHIEF AND
CITY CLERK; PROVIDING SEVERABILITY CONFLICTS
AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Sanford City Commission to amend Article
Article XIX of the City Code of Sanford, Florida, Civil Service Board and Civil
Service System, Seetion 2-328 c]assifying the positions of Poliee Chief, Fire Chief
and City Clerk.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: Section 2-328, of the City Code of Sanford is hereby
amended to read as follows:
SECTION 2-328. Classification of positions. The City Commission shall
classify the positions of Police Chief, Fire Chief and City Clerk. The
City Commission, subject to the approval of the Civil Service Board
shall classify all positions in the city service, except Police Chief, Fire
Chief, and City Clerk and those as stated in Section 2-315, according
to the duties and responsibilities of each position or employment.
Classification shall be so arranged that all positions which are
substantially the same with respect to authority, responsibility, and
character of work are included in the same class. From time to time the
commission may reclassify positions upon proper showing that the
positions belong to a different class. The positions so classified
constitute the classified service of the City of Sanford, and no
appointment to any position shall be made except under and according
to the rules and regulations hereinafter set forth.
SECTION 2: The Code of Ordinances of the City of Sanford, Florida be
and the same is hereby amended in accordance with the terms, provisions, and
conditions of this Ordinance. Further, that the sections of this Ordinance may be
tenumbered or relettered to accomplish said amendment and the word "Ordinance"
may be changed to "Section", "Article", or any other appropriate word.
SECTION 3: If any section or portion of a section of this ordinance
provides to be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to impair the
validity, force or effect of any other section or part of this ordinance.
SECTION 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith be and the same are hereby revoked.
SECTION 5: That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage and adoption.
