Faison: The
attached Building Official memorandum of February`5 1988
addresses the requested replacement of an existing non- conforming
pole sign.. The sign is non=conforming, because it does
not meet present minimum spacing requirements of 150' be- tween
signs. The two existing signs in question have been in 3 place
for a number of years, and -either pre-date'our existing ordinance,
or were somehow approved in their present condition. The
requested sign change is not the result of a change of use, or
change of ownership. F
In
response to my question -Gary `advis`es, that he can recall no -
precedent where the City has refused to,allow,the replace- ment
of .a non -conforming sign with a'similar product.' I there- fore
recommend that the requested replacement be authorized. I In
our upcoming detailed review of the.City sign ordinance, pgI
will include consideration of such a condition and develope ; alternative

SUBJECT: Replacement of non -conforming sign
I received a request from Bee Dee Neon & Signs, Inc., to allow F
them to replace an existing pole sign with a complete new one
located, at 3418 South Orlando Drive. The only problem is by our
existing sign ordinance pole signs on the same property have to 4
be a minimum of 1501feet apart they only have 120' feet from
another existing sign.

Dear Sir,
Bee Dee Neon and Signs, Inc. has been contracted to remove the
existing "AMC Jeep" pylon sign at Sanford Motor Car, 3418 South
Orlando Avenue, Sanford, Florida; and replace it with a new sign
displaying the Chrysler logo and Jeep identification. The new sign
will be installed next to the existing "AMC Jeep" that is to be
removed.
Enclosed is a site plan showing the position of the existing
signs and proposed signs. The new "Chrysler Jeep" sign in this
position is only 120' from the other existing pylon sign. To meet
the 150' separation between signs would place the new sign in the
middle of the dealer's entrance drive.
I am asking that this 150' separation requirement be reduced
to 120' to accomodate the placement of this new sign. If you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
