f1. Furnish all trarsportation, materials, labor, equipment and
services to complete all work as shown on the drawings and
as specified herein.
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Examine surfaces to which work will be applied and immediately
notify landscape architect in writing if site is not in
proper condition for Contractor to perform his duties under
the terms of this contract.
B, Coordinate work with Owner,and other related trades.
C. Relocate existing plant material as directed by landscape
architect.
U. Comply with all Federal, state, and local regulations.
1.2 MAINTENANCE
A. Contractor shall be fully responsible for all maintenance,clgmage8y
and replacements until acceptance of that specific phase
of work. Document damage by other trades. Immediately bring
to Owners attention and quickly repair, at Owners expense.
B. Maintenance consists of pruning, cultivation, weeding,
+mulching, adjusting guys, resetting plants to proper grade
or upright position, restoration of planting saucer, and
furnishing and applying such sprays as necessary to keep
the planting free of insects of disease.
C. Tile Contractor shall keep the premises free from accumulations
of waste materials or rubbish caused by his employees or
work, at all times.
1.3 REPLACEMENT'S
A. During tire guarantee period any plant,required under this -
contract, that Is dead or not in satisfactory growth condition
as determined by the landscape architect shall be promptly
replaced by the Contractor. Replacement shall be as
specified for the original planting and at no cost to the
Owner.
B. Replacement period conmrences at''date of final acceptance"
and continues as follows:
trees - one (1) year
shrubs - ninety (90) days
sod - ninety (90) days
except that replaced plants are guaranteed an additional sixty
(60) days. Time limit may be extended by mutual agreement
for material In questionable health at end of gaurantee period,
C. Plants damaged by theft, vandalism, gross neglect, undue
weather conditions, acts of God or unseasonable planting
are exempt from the gaurantee provision.
PART TWO PRODUCTS
2.0 APPLICABLE PUBLICATIONS: nomenclature and quality
A. Standardized Plant Nanres,`,1942 edition prepared by the
American Jo nt Conuu eel.on Horticultural Nomenclature.
B. Grades and Standards for ;NurserPlants, Florida Department
of Agriculture; part I, y �, Par 'II, 1972.
C. American Standard for Nurser Stock, 1980 edition prepared
2 by the Amer can Association, of, Nurserymen, Inc.
2.1 PLANTS
A. Measured standing -in natural form of the size indicated on
"plant list" and meeting Florida Number One unless otherwlse
indicated. Norr-classified plants to meet AAN standards
B,.Tree calipers to be measured six inches above soil level.,
C. Substantial deviation from specified size requires approval
of landscape architect.
D. All plants shall be sound,, he al thy, free from insect pests
or thier eggs, with normal; healthy root systems
E. Comply with all Federal, State'.and Local regulations governing
collection, health, transportation, arid inspection.
F. Form shall be symmetrical or typical for species and variCety$.
not pruned except as authorized. In any case terminal leader
shall not; be topped either before of after irstallation.
G. Any plant may be rejected by landscape architect if not of
satisfactory size, health, quality, or character.
2.2 PLANTING MIXTURE
A. Use the best natural top soil existing on site, combined °
with .fertilizer (dild Peat when specified on plant • list) .
2.3 FERTILIZER A. "Agri -form" or "Woodace" 21 gram tablet. 20-10-5 formulation `
one gallon plant - one tablet
two gallon plant - one to two tablets
five gallon plant - two to three tablets
trees - one tablet per foot of height ® /
B. Granular fertilizer shall be a balanced formula, uniform
in composition, free flowing, and delivered to site in i ( /,
unopened bags. Work, into the top two inches of soil at the
rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet for bedding plants, \ /
or 25 pounds per 1,000 square feet for lawn areas. I �J
2.4 MULCH
A. Apply two and one half to three inches shredded cypress
mulch around all plants, including a three foot diameter ! %
2.5 PEAT
mulch ring arou,rid every tree. i A. Incorporate native florida peat into backfill when specified
on plant .list, at the following rates:
one gallon plants - one -eighth cubic foot
three gallon plants - one cubic foot
trees - one half cubic foot per foot of height
2.6 ADDITIONAL, SOIL AMENDMENTS
A. Apply as needed to bring soil into optimum growth range
for specified plants, as recommended by IF'AS Extension
Soil 'Testing Laboratory at Gainesville, Florida.
B. If soil is below 5.001 incorporate enough horticultural lime
to bring within 5.5 to 6.5 pit range.
PART THREE - EXECUTION
3 3.0 RQUGH GRADING
A. Mold land surfaces to within one inch of final grade.
Construct swales and berms. Fill low areas. Ensure
proper drainage of all areas. Six inch lifts at a0$ Compaction.
B.. Slope grade away from buildings at a minimum slope of one
half inch per foot for a distance of ten feet nrinimurit.
3.1 FINAL GRADING
A. Remove all non -conforming matter from site, such as rocks,
sod, sticks, building rubble, wire, or carts.
B. Dig out weeds by the roots. /
C, Till In soil amendments such as lime, iron, or gypsum if
Indicated by local conditions, but only after approval of
landscape architect. Ensure uniform application.
D. Rake surface smooth with wide grading rake.
3.2 PLANTING PITS
A. Shrub pits shall have .vertical sides with diameter one foot
greater than diameter of root ball.
B. Tree pits shall have vertical sides with diameter two ;Feet
greater ,than diameter of root ball.
3.3 PLANT INSTALLATION
A. Do not crackr or break soil away from, root ball.
B. Carefully set plant plumb, best side facing "out", at same
soil level as previously grown (to one inch higher).
C. Remove all twine, burlap, or rope from top third of root ball.
Retain cloth under ball. Wash in backfill with slow hose.
D•' Form shallow basin at each plant. Adjust grade to 1z inch
below adjacent pavement. All plants shall be 30 inch minimum"
from walls, walks, or fences.
E. Space groundcover in triangle pattern with outside row
parallel to bedline, one half spacing distance from'ed,ge.
3.4 SOD INSTALLATION
A. Lay panels tightly together. Top dress cracks with sand. Water.
3.5 STAKE AND GUY as per plan
3.6 FERTILIZE evenly at specified rates.
3.7 PRUNE minimum necessary to remove damaged twigs aril branches. _
3.8 MULCH to a uniform depth. Fluff and pat in place.
3.9 INSPECTIONS
A. Landscape architect or Owner will conduct periodic ins,pectl,ons.
to determine that the terms of this contract are fulfilled.
B. Contractor will be expected to participate with Owner arid
landscape arclritWet in a final inspection of all plants,
materials, arid installation practices: as to the type,
quantities, sizes, locations, dimensions and workmanship.
Final payment for work will depend upon satisfactory ---- - - -"
condition, of project oil date of inspection.
3.10 SUBMITTALS (may be waived by landscape architect or super intendant
if conformance is visably demonstrated.)
A. Substitutions -proof of unavailability.
B. Plant inspection certificates and shipping invoices.
C. Fertilizer labels and notarized letter of conformance,
D. Copy of IFtests for Routine Soil 'rest, Micronutrien�ts,
4 and Organic Mattd'r - prop code 80. (or equal)
E. Notorized letter stating soil amendments added.
F. One set of as -built record drawings.
