Gentlemen,
As an alternate to corrugated steel roof decking on the above
referenced project., the following will be accepted as an equal:
31, thick "Permadeck" planks, as manufactured by Concrete
Products Division, W.R. Grace & Co., Brunswick, Georgia
and Terry, Mississippi. Material and installation shall
conform to "Recommended Specifications for Permadeck Plank
on Joists", (manufacturer's publication #1362), a copy
of which is'.at.tached.

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS FOR PERMADECK PLANK
ON JOISTS
DIVISION 3 - CONCRETE

T -
Cement -Fiber Unit Decking
1. SCOPE:
Furnish all labor, materials described herein, equipment and super-
vision necessary to install the complete structural cement -fiber roof
decks on areas shown on the plans and/or described in the specifi-
cations. Crickets, saddles, cants, curbs, wood nailers , edge
angles and framing for openings shall be provided by others.
2. MATERIALS:
Structural cement -fiber roof deck shall be Permadeck Plank as man-
ufactured by Concrete Products Division, W. R. Grace & Co.,
Brunswick, Georgia and Terry, Mississippi. It shall conform to
Uniform Standards and Specifications" of the Structural Cement -
Fiber Products Association, and shall consist of chemically treated
fibers pressure bonded with portland cement. Material shall be
rated noncombustible according to Federal Specification SS-S-118a.
Material shall bear Underwriters' Laboratories Fire Hazard Classifi-
cation label and meet the requirements of the American Insurance
Association for noncombustible materials.
The "U" value, (HFD), of the composite roof system shall be .185
for 2 in. (or .155 for 2-1/2 in.), (or .135 for 3 in.) . The noise
reduction coefficient of the Plank shall be .60 - .70 for 2 in. (or
65 - .75 for 2-1/2 in.) (or .75 - .85 for 3 in.). , Material shall be
furnished with a factory applied ptiriia coat of p:Lint.
Note to Architect: Finish painting by others should be covered under
Painting" section of Specifications.)
Permadeck Planks shall be 2 in. (2-1/2 in.) (or 3 in.) thick by 32 in.
wide by 96" long with tongue -and -groove and beveled sides and
square ends.
Roof deck shall be capable of receiving roofing immediately after in-
stallation. Deck material shall permit evaporation of any moisture
present without use of venting devices .
The material shall have been tested and listed by Underwriters'
Laboratories to resist 90 p.s.f, wind uplift without failure of built-
up roofing.

3. PLACING:
Permadeck shall be installed as shown on approved drawings. End
joints shall be staggered, and bear on framing members, Permadeck
Plank shall be fastened as the work progresses, and each row shall
be driven up snugly against the preceding row.
4 FASTENING:
Permadeck E-J clips ( for steel barjoists or light rolled beams) or Permadeck
E-Z clips (for hollow tubing, "Z" purlins etc.) or Permadeck
E-D'clips (for concrete joists with dovetail inserts), one
clip per row of Permadeck per joist shall be used. Nail
Permadeck to wood joists with four d galvanized common nails
at each landing. NOTE
Use 16d for 2 in. plank, 24d for 2--1/2 in, or Sad for 3 in. 5.
CERTIFICATION: Upon
completion of the roof deck installation a certificate shall be furnished
to the architect stating that the Permadeck Plank was p: n._ duced
and installed in accordance with these specifications . 6.
ROOFING Built-
up roofing shall be applied in accordance with roofing' man- ufacturers'
specifications for structural ce'men i Ai,ez vovZ NOTE:
Base sheets shall be applied by mopping with steep asphalt or
nailed with capped E.S. Nails or Simplex Tubelok Tails NOTE:
The deck may be roofed immediately but structural strength is
not impaired if roofing is delayed.

columns 12"xl2" with same amount of
rebar.
2. Change periform beam from 2 courses
with (1) #5 rebar each to 1 course
with (2) #5 rebar.
3. Note that at each corner of the build-
ing there will be three poured cells`
with (1) #5 rebar in each cell ,, '
