AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD,
FLORIDA, AMENDING SECTION 18-20 OF THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
SAID SECTION PERTAINING TO THE PARKING
OR STORING OF RECREATIONAL VEHICLES ON
STREETS AND PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY,
SAID AMENDMENT TO AUTHORIZE TEMPORARY
OCCUPANCY OF RECRE;ATIONAL VEHICLES
OUTSIDE OF MOBILE HOME PARKS FOR A
PERIOD NOT TO EXCEED THREE WEEKS UPON
SPECIAL PERMISSION ISSUED BY THE CITY
MANAGER.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD. FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Section 18-20 of the Code of the City of
Sanford, Florida, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 18-20. Recreational Vehicles: Parking or Storing
on Streets or Private Residential Property.
(a) For the purpose of this section, the term "recreational
vehicle shall mean and include any boat mounted on a trailer, any camp
trailer, travel trailer or other unit built or mounted on a vehicle or
chassis, without permanent foundation, which is used for temporary
dwelling or sleeping purposes and which, under the provisions of
applicable Florida Statutes, may be legally driven or towed by a passenger
vehicle on a highway; provided the same does not exceed thirty-two (32)
feet in length.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to park any
recreational vehicle for any period exceeding two (2) hours on any
street in the city except for the purposes of repair. If any person
desires to repair a recreational vehicle while it is parked on any street,
he shall obtain a permit therefor from the Police Department. Such
permit shall not be issued unless the recreational vehicle cannot be
removed to a garage, service station, or other premises for the purpose
of repair, and shall be granted on request without fee. It shall be valid
for a period of forty-eight (48) hours from the issuance thereof, but
may for good cause shown be renewed for a further forty-eight-hour
period or periods as necessity may require. Any such recreational
vehicle undergoing repairs while parked in a street shall not, during
such period of repair, be used by any person as a dwelling or sleeping
place.
(c) Any owner of a recreational vehicle may park or store
such equipment on private property subject to the following conditions:
(1) If the recreational vehicle is parked or stored outside
of a garage or building, it shall be parked or stored
to the rear of the rear building line of the lot.
(2) Such parked or stored recreational vehicle shall not
be occupied or used for living, sleeping, or house-
keeping purposes except as provided in paragraph (3)
below.
(3) The owner of such parked or stored recreational
vehicle shall request permission from the City Manager,
stating the name and place of residence of person
desiring to occupy the same, the make, length and
State license number of such recreational vehicle
and the place where such recreational vehicle will be
occupied. Only one permit for three (3) weeks temporary
occupancy shall be allowed.
(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (1) above,
a recreational vehicle may be parked anywhere on
private residential property for loading or unloading
purposes.
SECTION 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
