Below please find responses to the comments. S-1 Provide the door and window manufacturer's Florida Product Approval documentation and installation instructions for all. Response: The porch addition will not be conditioned space and therefore, will not be enclosed with glass windows and doors. The windows and doors will be custom fabricated from fiberglass screen and wood trim. Please see notes on elevations Det.'s 2 & 4, Sheet 3 S-2 The plans do not indicate / provide a detail for attachment of the new masonry walls to the existing structure's masonry wall. Response: Please see attached detail 1/1, -"CMU to Existing CMU Wall", dated January 29, 2008. S-3 The 4" wide masonry walls, indicated on the plans at Detail 1/1, do not comply with the 2004 Florida Building Code, Residential Section R606.1 as stated in the "Notes To Drawing" on Plan page 1. Section R606.2 requires the exterior walls to eight inches or shall be designed in accordance with Section R606.1 ". If the 4" wall thickness is correct please provide all engineering and testing data for the 4" masonry walls. Response: The new masonry walls will be constructed of 8" wide x 4" high x 16" long CMU to match the existing house with the exception of the single base course shown in Det. 1/2. References to 4" CMU on the plans are to mean 4" high CMU. All new CMU walls are 8" wide. S-4 There appears to be other notes on Plan page 2 that causes a conflict between the masonry block sizes. Please clarify. Response: Per the response to item S-3 above, all new CMU walls will be constructed of 8" W. x 4" H. x 16" L. CMU except as shown in Det. 1/2. This is because the existing porch slab is sloped to from north to south (top of slab elevation difference of 2".) So the bottom course along the east wall will be constructed of 8"CMU and cut from 8" high at the low end of the slab to 6" high on the high endof the slab in order to provide a level course for the rest of the CMU wall above. This is how the base of the existing west wall is constructed. The 8" cut block is shown at the base of the elevations 3 and 4, sheet 3. The single 8" block course is also shown on detail 1, sheet 2 however, it was not clearly noted. Mr. Denman, I hope the above responses clarify your review of the drawings.
