Product Description
Reliable Models F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed Sprinklers are
quick response sprinklers which combine the durability of a
standard sprinkler with the attractive low profile of a decorative
sprinkler.
The Models F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed automatic sprinklers
utilize a 3.0 mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers have
demonstrated response times in laboratory tests which are five
to ten times faster than standard response sprinklers. This
quick response enables the Model F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed
sprinklers to apply water to a fire much faster than standard
sprinklers of the same temperature rating.
The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled amount
of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a precisely manufac-
tured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially constructed to
provide fast thermal response. The balance of parts are made
of brass, copper and beryllium nickel.
At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid
in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can
be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid ex-
pands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liquid
pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to
push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter,
opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distrib-
ute the discharging water.
The temperature rating of the sprinkler is identified by the
color of the glass bulb.

Application
Quick response sprinklers are used in fixed fire protec-
tion systems: Wet, Dry, Deluge or Preaction. Care must be
exercised that the orifice size, temperature rating, deflector
style and sprinkler type are in accordance with the latest
published standards of the National Fire Protection Asso-
ciation or the approving Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation as
specified in NFPA 13. Quick response sprinklers and stan-
dard response sprinklers should not be intermixed.

Installation
Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation
as specified in NFPA 13. Quick response sprinklers and
standard response sprinklers should not be intermixed.
The Model F1 FR Recessed Quick Response Sprinklers
are to be installed as shown. The Model F1 or F2 Escutch-
eons illustrated are the only recessed escutcheons to be
used with the Model F1 FR Sprinklers. The use of any other
recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and negate all
warranties.
When installing Model F1 FR Sprinklers, use the Model D
Sprinkler Wrench. When installing Model F1 FR Recessed
Sidewall Sprinklers, use the Model GFR1 Sprinkler
Wrench. Use the Model RC 1 Wrench for installing F1 FR
Recessed Pendent Sprinklers. Any other type of wrench
may damage these sprinklers.

Maintenance
The Models F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed Sprinklers
should be inspected quarterly and the sprinkler system
maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean
sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other
cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or gen-
tle vacuuming. Remove any sprinkler which has been
painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any
way. A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to
allow quick replacement of damaged or operated sprin-
klers. Prior to installation, sprinklers should be maintained
in the original cartons and packaging until used to mini-
mize the potential for damage to sprinklers that would
cause improper operation or non -operation.

Fully Listed and FM Approved Sprinkler Pipe
When you specify Schedule-10/Schedule-40 sprinkler pipe you get a UL listed and FM approved product. Although these
products do not require separate approvals, Schedule-10/Schedule-40 gives you the extra quality assurance you demand.
Our Sch-10 (IV,"- 8") pipe and Sch-40 (1 "- 2'/,") pipe have passed the same thorough lab testing as our other listed pipe
products, and receive periodic mill inspections from both UL and FM agents to ensure consistent quality.
Schedule-10/Schedule-40 product can be
"hot -dip" galvanized to meet FM
requirements for dry systems in
accordance with the zinc coating
specifications of ASTM A-123.
Our advanced formula mill coating of-
fers a clean, durable surface. It is also
paint -ready for custom color applications
Without special preparation.
The internal surface of all black Allied
Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe
. products up to 4.5000" in diameter is
coated with our new Antibacterial For-
mula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory
test, ABS proved to have superior resis-
tance to microbial colonization of pipe
walls, thereby delaying or possibly pre-
venting the onset of Microbiologically
Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the
First Sprinkler System is first installed.
Meets "Buy American" requirement
and is available through distributors in
the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Schedule-f0/Schedule-40 pipe are in
compliance with the following:
ASTM A-135, and NFPA 13. Both pipe
products have a working pressure rating
of 300 psi maximum and also meet the
stringent requirement for the following
tests:
• Welded Outlets
• Hydrostatic Pressure
• Side Wali Rupture
• Vibration Test

FireLockr" Style 005 rigid
coupling has a unique, pat-
ented angle -pad design
which allows the housings
to offset while clamping the
grooves. By permitting the
housings to slide on the
angled bolt pads, rigidity is
obtained.

8.. (108,0 - 219,1 mm) sizes:
Schedule 10 roll grooved or
Schedule 40 cut or roll grooved
steel pipe. Style 005 is rigid and
does not accommodate expan-
sion, contraction or angular
deflection.
The FireLock couplings

VICTAULIC' IS AN 1509001 CERTIFIED COMPANY
FireLock°° products comprise a unique system specifically designed for fire protection services. FireLock
full -flow elbows and tees are a CAD -developed, hydrodynamic design that has a shorter center -to -end
dimension than standard fittings. A noticeable bulge allows the water to make a smoother turn to maintain
similar flow characteristics as standard full flow fittings.
FireLock fittings are designed for use exclusively with Style 005 FireLock couplings. Use of other
couplings or flange adapters may result in bolt pad interference.
Victaulic FireLock fittings pressure ratings conform to the ratings of Victaulic FireLock Style 005
couplings.

FLOW CHARACTERISTICS
NOTE: Placement of check valves
too close to sources of unstable flow
will shorten the life of the valve and
potentially damage the system. To
extend valve life, valves should be
installed a reasonable distance
downstream from pumps, elbows,
expanders, reducers or other similar
devices Sound piping practices
dictate a minimum of live (5) times
the pipe diameter for general use.
Distancesbetween three (3) and live
(5) diameters are allowable provid-
ed the flow velocity is less than eight
(8) feet per second (2.4 mps). Dis-
tances less than three (3) diameters
are not recommended and will vio-
late the Victaulic product warranty.
