AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 16 1/2 - 1 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, THE SAME BEING KNOWN
AS THE MECHANICAL CODE, SAID AMENDMENT ADOPTING
THE 1976 EDITION OF THE STANDARD MECHANICAL CODE,
AS AMENDED, WITH THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENTS:
DELETION OF SECTION 106 ENTITLED "FEES" OF THE
STANDARD MECHANICAL CODE; AMENDMENT OF SECTION
303.2 (a) 3 TO DELETE THE REQUIRE1VIENT THAT THE OPENING
OR DOOR AND PASSAGEWAY BE NO LESS THAN TWO FEE IN
WIDTH; AMENDMENT OF SECTION 303.2 (a) 4 TO DELETE THE
REQUIREMENT THAT THE OFENING AND PASSAGEWAY BE NO
LESS THAN THIRTY INCHES BY THIRTY INCHES; AMENDMENT
OF SECTION 303.2 (a) 5 TO DELETE THE REQUIREMENT THAT
THE ACCESS OPENING AND PASSAGEWAY BE NO LESS THAN
THIRTY INCHES BY THIRTY INCHES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION I. That Section 106 of the 1976 Edition of the Standard
Mechanical Code~ the same being entitled "Fees" is hereby deleted in its entirety.
SECTION 2. That Sub~se~lion (A) 3 of Section 303.2 of the Standard
Mechanical Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(A) 3. Where such appliance is located in a furnace room,
such room shall have an opening or door and passageway thereto
large enough to permit removal of the largest piece of the furnace
in such room.
SECTION 3. That Sub-section 4 (A) of Section 303.2 of the Standard
Mechanical Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"4. Attic Installations
(A) Every attic or furred space in which a warm-air
furnace is installed shall be readily accessible by an opening and
passageway as large as the largest piece of the furnace continuous
from the opening to the furnace and its controls. The opening to the
passageway shall be located not more than twenty (20) feet from the
furnace measured along the center line of such passageway. Every
passageway shall be unobstructed and shall have solid continuous
flooring not less than twenty-four (24) inches wide from the entrance
opening to the furnace."
SECTION 4. That Sub-section 5 (A) of Section 303.2 of the Standard
Mechanical Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

"5. Under Floor Installations. Every warm-air furnace
installed in the underfloor area of any building shall comply
with the following requirements:
(A) An access opening and passageway of a height and
width sufficient to permit removal of the furnace shall be
provided to the working space in front of the furnace. The
access opening to any such passageway shall be through an
opening in an exterior wall of the building or through a trap
door within the building. The distance from the passageway
access to the heating equipment shall not exceed twenty (20)
feet.
SECTION ~. The 1976 Edition of the Standard Mechanical Code
as prepared by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., as amended,
is hereby adopted by the City, and a copy of same, as amended, is filed in the office
of the City Clerk as a matter of permanent record of the City~ and the matters and
contents therein are made a part of this Ordinance by reference as fully and
completely as if set forth herein, and such copy shall remain on file in said office
available for public inspection.
