SITE WORK
1. REFER TO THE SOILS REPORT FOR SPECIFIC DESIGN REQUIREMENTS.
2. REFER TO THE CIVIL DRAWINGS FOR LOCATION OF BUILDING WORKING POINTS, ROUGH GRADING, ON-SITE UTILITIES, SITE
IMPROVEMENTS, SITE RETAINING WALLS, AND SPECIFIC GENERAL NOTES. THE SOILS REPORT AND CIVIL DRAWINGS SHALL
OVERRIDE CONFLICTS WITH SITE WORK NOTED HEREIN.SEE LANDSCAPE DRAWINGS FOR FINAL FINISH GRADES, PLANTING AND
IRRIGATION.
3. PRESUMPTIVE SOIL BEARING CAPACITY IS 2000 PSF ON UNDISTURBED SOIL. ALL CONCRETE FOOTINGS SHALL BEAR ON
UNDISTURBED SOIL OR ENGINEERED FILL. BOTTOMS OF FOOTINGS SHALL BE 1'- 0" BELOW FINISH GRADE (MIN.).
4. ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON THE SITE DRAWINGS ARE MINIMUM REQUIRED DEPTHS, IF DIFFERENT CONTACT THE ARCHITECT.
5. NO EXCAVATION SHALL BE MADE WHOSE DEPTH BELOW THE FOOTING IS GREATER THAN %THE HORIZONTAL DISTANCE FROM
THE NEAREST EDGE OF THE FOOTING.
6. ALL BACKFILL AT STRUCTURES, SLABS, STEPS, AND PAVEMENTS SHALL BE CLEAR OF GRANULAR FILL. PLACE IN 8" LAYERS
AND COMPACT TO 95% MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM D1557. THE BUILDING SITE SHALL BE
KEPT DRY SO THAT EROSION WILL NOT OCCUR IN THE FOUNDATIONS.
7. COMPACTION BY FLOODING OR JETTING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
8. DO NOT BACKFILL UNTIL SLABS HAVE CURED OR HAVE BEEN PROPERLY BRACED. (WHERE APPLICABLE)

CONCRETE IN BUILDINGS, ACI 301, AND THE BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE, ACI 318.
2. ALL CONCRETE FOR THE FOOTINGS, SLABS ON GROUND, AND MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE
STRENGTH OF 2500 PSI AFTER 28 DAYS, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON THE DRAWINGS.
3. ALL AGGREGATES USED IN CONCRETE SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM C33. MAXIMUM AGGREGATE SIZE SHALL BE
4. PROVIDE 6% AIR ENTRAINED CONCRETE EXPOSED TO EARTH OR WEATHER.
5. BRACE FOUNDATION WALLS, RETAINING WALLS, DURING BACKFILLING AND TAMPING OPERATIONS. LEAVE BRACING IN POSITION
UNTIL PERMANENT RESTRAINTS ARE INSTALLED.
6. ALL EXPOSED EDGES OF CONCRETE SHALL BE CHAMFERED'/;'.

MASONRY
1. DESIGN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCRETE
MASONRY STRUCTURES, ACI 530.1 / ASCE 6, LATEST REVISION.
2. CONCRETE MASONRY UNITS SHALL BE GRADE "N" TYPE II OR EQUAL AND, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C90, STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS FOR HOLLOW LOAD-BEARING CONCRETE MASONRY UNITS, MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF Pm =1500
PSI.
3. OPEN-END BLOCK MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR STANDARD TWO CELLED BLOCK.
4. MORTAR SHALL BE TYPE M OR S IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C270, STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR MORTAR FOR MASONRY.

CONCRETE LINTEL PROPERTIES AND SPECIFICATIONS:
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
A steel reinforced concrete beam designed to be placed above an opening in a masonry wall. The
primary element is a steel reinforced high strength precast concrete beam with a U-shaped cross-
section, which can be grout filled (poured) or remain empty. Masonry units may be placed on top
of this primary beam element and poured with grout to form a deeper section for additional load
capacity (steel reinforcement may also be added).
MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS:
1. Precast, non -prestressed lintel for 8" and 12" CMU construction: 3,500 psi (fc)
2. Precast, prestressed lintel for 8" CMU construction: 6,000 psi (f'c)
3. Grout compressive strength 3,000 psi (Fg) per ASTM C476 with maximum aggregate size
of 3/8" and' a slump range from 8" to 11".
4. Concrete masonry units shall conform to ASTM C90 with a minimum 1,900 psi net area
compressive strength.
5. Steel reinforcement in precast ]Intel: ASTM A615, Grade 60•
6. Prestressing strand in precast lintel: ASTM A416, Grade 270, low relaxation.
7. Steel reinforcement added in the field., ASTM A615, Grade 40 or 60.
S. Mortar: ASTM 0270. Tvoe M or S.
GENERAL STRUCTURAL NOTES:
1. End bearing: minimum 6-1/2".
2. Full mortar joints required.
3. Lintel installation must conform to project drawings.
4. Steel reinforcing bar at bottom of lintel cavity may be added in the field.
5. Vertical reinforcement and grout may be placed in 51/2" long notches at each lintel end.
6. Allowable load ratings (tabular values) conform to ACI 318 and ACI 530 based upon
rational analysis.
7. Mechanical anchorage provided by 7/32" dia. wire stirrups welded to the bottom
longitudinal reinforcing bars.
8. Poured in place concrete may be placed above primary precast lintel as an alternate to
grouted CMUs to form the composite beam.
9. Lintels with a nominal height of 8" and longer than 17' 0" meet or exceed L/180
deflection ratio. All other lintels meet or exceed L/360 deflection ratio.
10. When allowable load capacity of a precast unfilled lintel is exceeded by the dead' load of
grout filled composite lintel during construction, lintels shall be shored at 8' o.c.
maximum and shoring maintained until grout reaches at least 85% of its specified
strength.
11. Using the following equation, lintels shall be checked for simultaneous load stresses
when a combination of vertical and horizontal loads are applied:
