Upon activation of an initiating device, the associated visual and audible output shall operate for approximately six seconds. 5. When an alarm condition is detected on an initiating device circuit that has been programmed for alarm verification, the system shall automatically enter the clorm verification mode. The Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) shall communicate with field devices over one or more Style 4 analog-addresscble signaling line circuits. 7. Sub -circuits from addressable input/output modules, used to interface input/ output devices (i.e. bells, conventi onal fire detectors, tampers, etc-) shall be supervised. Initiating circuits shall be wired for Style B operation and indicating circuits wired for Style Y operation. Super -vision shall include open circuit, short circuit and gr-ound fault. Modules requiring external power for operation of two -wire conventional detector sub-c'rcuits and initiating device circuits shall super -vise 'the presence of 11 external power. . 8. The s stem shall provide Summary printouts, initiated by operator y � command, that 'include the following 'information: a. The system shall provide identification of point type, location and status. Each addressable and analog device shall have a field assigned 20 -character zone identification message and a unique 16 -character device identification message. 12. The system shall provide standby batteries for complete system operation during AC power outages. a. A fault condition shall be indicated when the system is operating on standby battery. When AC power is restored the system sholl revert back to AC power without operator intervention or manual ,restart. B. Each event shall be individually acknowledged before 'the system con be returned to normal operation. C.Supervisory Operation The system shall activate a supervisony condition when a sprinkler tomper Or other supervision input 'is activated. The supervisory condition shall cause the following system response: 1. The supervisory condition shall be visually and audibly indicated at the FACIP as follows; a. Illuminate a yellow system "supervisory" LED indicator. b. Pulse an audible buzzer at the FACP that shall sound until the system is silenced. c. Display specific information about the supervisory condition on the LCD as follows; 1. Type of event 2� Zone and point numeric identification 3. 16 character text message unique to the specific point causing 'the supervisory condition 4. 20 character text message associated with the zone in the supervisory condition 2. The system shall display the su ' pervisory condition at all remote annunciators and display panel t drawings. These panels shall contain the identical controls and indicators as contained on the E`ACP. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 EIRE ALARM SYSTEM A. Special pricing and delivery arrangements have been made through the ' FPS. No other alternates to shop drawings and specif I cations will be - considered, unless written approval is received from the E -PE. 2.02 FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL A. Fire alarm control ' Donel shall be manufactured by Silent Knight Alarms or as determined by TVA personnel and provided by FMC7. A silent kni-aht microprocessor -based multiplex fire alarm system with intelligent, addressable, initliction devices is required. The riser diagram is based around a multiplex oddresscble system. The fire alarm system shall be monitored by an a ' oproved u.1. listed central station monitoring service. Interface will be fully listed and c1pproved q: ior 'this Purpose. B. The fire alarm control panels shall incorporate all control electronics, relays and necessary modules and components in a surface or sen -ii -flush mounted cabinet. The operating controls and zone/supervisory indicators shall be located behind locked door with viewing window. All control modules shall be labeled, and oil zone locations shall be identified. The ' cabinet shall be 18 GA_ steel, w ' th c permanent. finish. The assembly shall contain c base panel, system power supply and battery charger with optional modules sultable to meet the requirements of 'these Specifications. C. System circuits shall be capable of configuration cis follows: Addressoble analog loops Class A or B; Initiating Device Circuits Class B; Notification Appliance Circuits Class A or B. D. The system shall be supervised, site programmable, remote programmable and of modular design with expansion modules. ' E. The system shall store oil basic system functionality cnd job specific data in non-volatile memory. The system shall survive a complete power failure intact. F. The system shall allow down loading of a job specific custom program created by system application software. It shall support programming of any Input point to any output point. It shall allow authorized customization of fundamental system operations using initiating events to start cations, timers and sequences. G. The systern shall use full digital communications to supervise all addressable loop devices for installation, addressing and operation. H. The system shall have a UL Listed Detector Sensitivity test feciture, which -141II be a function of the smoke detectors and performed outomc-Lica7ly every 3 hours. 1. The system shall support 100% of all remote devices in alarm. J. All panel modules shall be supervised for placement and return trouble if damaged or removed. K. The system shall hove a CPU watchdog circuit to initiate trouble should the CPU fall. L. The system evacuation signal rate shall be continuous. M. Audible notification appliances shall be affected by signal silence features - Visual signal appliance shall not be affected by signal silence features. N. The system progr-cm shall meet the requirements of this project, current codes and standards and satisfy the local Authoriity Having jurisdiction. 0. Passwords shall protect any changes to system operations. P. The Dower supply shall provide line monitoring to automatically switch to batteries for power failure or brown out conditions. Input power shall be 1 20 VAC, 60 HZ. The automatic battery charger shall have low battery discharge protection. The power supply shall provide internal power and 24 Vdc at 5A for notification appliance circuits. The power supply shall be capable of providing 8A to output circuits for c maximum period of 5 mins. Auxiliary power shall be 24 Vdc at IA. All outputs shall be power limited. Q. Auxiliary Power Supply: Provide where required a switching power supply that provides auxiliary 24 VDC power for- system devices (conventional detectors and indicating appliances). 1. Brownout and loss of AC power shall cause automatic changeover to connected standby battery supply sized to provide for the attached load 'in accordance with control equipment specifications. 2. ,AC line, battery condition and output wiring ground faults shall be I monitored by the power supply and signaled to the FACP. A, Ground "cult LED shall be provided on the power supply unit.. Bct-tery condition monitoring shall include low voltage, missing batteries, reverse connection and shorted bottery connection. The power supply shall provide a regulated 24 VDC Output ct 6 Amps. Power supply outputs shall meet NFPA standards for power I . . L limited/class 2 circuits. ' R. The LCD Display Module shall be of membrane style construction w ' th a Liquid Crystal Display. The LCD shall use backlighting for high contrast , Visual clarity. The design shall Provide sufficient quantities of addresscbl-- indicating circuit modules and 24 VDC Power supplies, in the Pro , Der locations, to insure that the UL specified minimum voltage 'IS present at all indicating appliances. The control module shall mount in a standard 4 -inch square, 2-1/8 inch deep electrical box, or to a surface mounted backbox. 3. Isolator modules shall be provided to automatically isolate wire -to -wire short circuits on on SLC loop. The isolator module shall limit the number of modules or detectors that may be rendered inoperative by a short circuit fault on the SLC Loop. At least one isolator module shall be provided for each floor or protected zone of the building. 2. If a wire -to -wire short occurs, the isolator module shall automatically open -circuit (disconnect) the SLC loop. When the Z short circUiL condition 'is corrected, the isolator module shall automatically reconnect the isolated section. 3. The Isolator module shall not require any address setting and its operations shall be totally automatic. It shall not be necessary to replace or reset an 'isolator module after its normal operation. 4. The isolator module shall mount in a standard 4 -inch deep electrical box or 'in a surface mounted backbox. It Shall provide a single LED that shall flash to indicate that the 'isolator is operational and shall illuminate steadil to indicate that a short , I y circuit condition has been detected and isolated. H. Fire Protection System Alarm and Supervisory Equipment 1. W'cterflow Switches shall be an integral, mechanical, non -coded, non-accur-nulative retard type. 2. �,%Icterflow Switches shall .hove on alarm transmission delay time that is conveniently adjustable from 0 to 60 seconds. Initial settings shall be 30-45 seconds. 3. All waterflow switches, gate valve supervisory switches, post * indicator valve su ' Dervisory switches, and waterflow clorm gongs (if required) shall be provided and installed by 'the general contractor. The electrical water -flow alarm -sig nall Ing appliance (as indicated on drawings) shall be provided by FPS and installed by the general contractor. The genera[ contractor shall make adjustments and final * wire terminations. 4� All conduit for the sprinkler- switches and clarm-slgnaling applionce(s) shall be provided by 'the general contractor. Provide 4" square junction box on closest structural wall to device. Flexible conduit shall be provided and installed by the general contractor. Wiring and final connection shall be provided by the general contractor. 5. Each sprinkler system water supply control valve riser and zone control valve shall be equipped with a supervisory switch. 6. DIV (post indicator valve) or main gate valves shall be equipped Wit Lh 0 Supervisory switch. 7. The switch shall be mounted so as not to 'Interfere with 'the normal J operction of the valve and adjusted to operate within two revolutions toward the closed position of the valve control, or when the stem has moved no more than one-fifth of the distance from its normal position- The general contractor shall verify and coordinate all supervisory switches are adjusted as required. 8. The supervisory switch shall be contained in a weatherproof aluminum housing, which shall provide a 3/4 -'inch (19 mm) conduit entrance and incorporate the necessary facilities for attachment to the valves. 9. The switch housing shall be finished 'in red baked enamel. 10. The entire installed assembly shall be tamper proof. � 11. Valve supervisory switches under this section shall be provided and installed by general contractor. 2.06 OFF PREMISES REPORTING EQUIPMENT A. The fire clarm control panel shall be provided with c built-in Digital Alarm Communicator Transmitter (DACT) for reporting alarm, trouble and supervisory conditions to c remote central station using telephone communication lines. mount within the FACP enclosure. include a built-in 0-90 second programmable delay. 3. The DACT shall monitor the telephone lines for trouble. 4. The DACT shall hove a programmable delay for reporting of AC power loss. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 GENERAL A. Installation of the fire alarm system shall be in strict compliance with manufacturer's recommendations. Consult 'the manufacturers control panel and peripheral equip ment Installation manuals for oil wiring diagrams, schematics, physical equipment sizes, etc. before beginning system installation. Refer to the riser/connection diagram for all specific systern, installation/ terminatlon/ wiring data. B. Fastening and supports of all equipment shall be adequate to support the required load arid provide a safety factor of 5. C. As indicated on 'the FPE shop drawings, each system clarm point or zone in the system shall be uniquely labeled within the fire alarm control panel. Conduit shall enter into the I - orm control panel only at those areas of 'the backbox that have factory conduit knockouts. B. Low-voltoge circuiting shall be installed exposed using NEC-FPLP rated cable per NEC article 1/60 unless otherwise noted by local jurisdictional authorities. C. ,Branch wiring from control and monitor modules 'to controlled and monitored points shall be minimum ;ilt'l 5 *�'G-CU paired cable (not ,necessarily twisted) or as per manufacturer's recommendations. Wiring for addressable and data transmission connections shall be minimurn #16 AWG -CU, low capacitance, per manufacturer's recommendations. Conduit shall be provided and installed by the general contractor. B. All exposed cable below the bottom bar joist or other roof structure protruding lower, or other locations where the cable may become exposed and/or damaqed, must be within a steel conduit, provided by 'the general contractor. (I. The general contractor shall Provide and install oil junction boxes and coverpictes per manufacturer's instructions and details. All electrical junction boxes shall be labeled as fire alarm systern with decal or other approved markings by general contractor. 3.04- END OF LINE RESISTORS A. The general contractor shall Install all end -of -line resistors at 'the device to ensure circuit reliability per manufacturer's instructions. 3.05 IDENTIFICATION A. The general contractor shall number code conductors appropriately and permanently for identification and servicing of the system. Labeling shall clearly identify the circuit, zone and/or device served. -7.06 FINAL SYSTEM ACCEPTANCE A. The system will be accepted only after a satisfactory test of the entire system has been accomplished by the general contractor in the Presence of a representative of the local authority having jurisdiction and Linens IN Things Management. The general co-ntractor shall coordinate and schedule the test. with 'the authority having jurisdiction prior to turnover to obtain final approval for certificate of occupancy. At the completion of the project, full documentation shall be presented to Linens N Things Management indicating acceptance testing has been approved per NFPA 72 and a Certificate of Compliance per NFPA 72 is provided. B. The general contractor shall perform a fire alarm system acceptance test in the presence of the FPE. This test is in addition to the tests required by 'the local authority having jurisdiction for the Certificate of Occupancy. The tests shall be in accordance with NFPA 72 and shall be per -formed after 'the complete installation of oil systems (one week ' DriOr to turnover). The contractor shall '* notify 'the FPE ten 00) working days prior to 'the completion ,of the installation for scheduling. The contractor shall budget for one day of testing and have two (2) personnel on site, however the contractor shall be responsible to be present. until such time that all systems are found acceptable. The contractor shall furnish all personnel, lifts, hand tools and any other equipment needed for testing. The contractor shall be responsible for all additional costs incurred by the failure to per -form the tests on the scheduled date, ithin 'he budgeted time (I day), and/or retests due to system wit. L failure (costs include, but are not limited to travel, lodging, per diem, tronsPortation and labor). C. Fi n a I acceptance will require the contractor to deliver (3) sets to the Linens N Things Project Manager and (1) set to TVA at time of acceptance test the following: 1. Record drawings (as built drawings). 2. NFPA 72 (1999) certificate of completion. - _). The general contractor-, U Don completion, shall provide to the Linens N Things project m ancger and TVA at a minimum: letter of completion indicating the System has been fully tested locally and remotely, signals hove been verified to the _� central station and operation of the system has been fully demonstrated to Linens N Things personnel (include names of those who were demonstrated to), users and installctlon manuals, cut sheets on all alarm devices installed on the premise. The general contractor shall receive written sign off �rom 'the Linens N Things project manager indicating oil above have been received. D. The general contractor shall provide a fully operational and tested fire clarm system, training on 'the Operation and proper use of the installed systems (c minimum of 2 classes shall be provided), including 24 .hour phone number for questions and service request t Lo the Linens IN Things representative, per the specification one (1) week prior to turnover. If the system cannot be 100% completed (le. construction of the building not complete), the affected devices shall be bypassed by 'the general contractor (resistors placed at each module) as to allow 'the system to be fully operational one (1) week Drior to turnover. � .' The general contractor shall obtain from the Linens N Things Management, contact lists for- notification purposes in case of system activation. The notification list shall include contact phone numbers, 'individuals title, and pass codes. This information shall be transmitted to the Central Station and the FPE upon receipt two weeks prior to turnover. G. The alarm company central station shall provide uploccling and downloading functions to the control panel from the central station. The central station shall provide at a minimum, zone and code program changes at the request of authorized Linens IN Things management. H. Prior to TVA's on-site acceptance test the general contractor shall have completed and be prepared to provide to TVA, during the TVA test, the following: 1. System shall be complete. 2. Ali devices and components shall be tested and signals verified to the central station - 3. NFPA 72 certificate of occupancy - 4. Central station monitoring instruction sheet completed and provided to the central station. - D. work is ready to turnover to the LNT ' contruction project manager as indicated: 0.
