Remove unacceptable soil, as required and place stone leveling layer. Level to within '/z inch over the entire wall base area. 2. Leveling pad material shall be FDOT #7 or #8 graded material. 3. Where unstable or unacceptable soil is encountered, undercut a minimum of 2 feet below the leveling pad, and fill with FDOT #57 stone. Compact the #57 stone to obtain the maximum dry density and minimum soil bearing requirements. 4. Soil beneath the leveling pad shall be compacted to a minimum of 95 percent of the Modified Proctor Maximum Dry Density of the soil and verified by in-place compaction tests at a frequency of one test per 200 lineal feet of wall. GENERAL NOTES 1. All details, sections, and notes shown on the drawings are intended to be typical and shall apply to similar situations elsewhere, unless noted or shown otherwise. 2. The owner, manufacturer, and contractor shall verify all dimensions and conditions before procurement of blocks or start of work. 3. The details on these drawings shall be used wherever applicable unless noted or shown otherwise in the civil engineering design drawings. Notes and details on the civil engineering design drawings take precedence over general notes and typical details in this retaining wall design set. 4. All construction workmanship and materials shall conform to the requirements of The Florida Building Code 2004 Edition. 5. All omissions or conflicts between the various elements of the working drawing and/or specifications shall be brought to attention of ECS - Florida, LLC before procuring any materials or proceeding with any work involved. 6. Observations and site visits by ECS -Florida, LLC field representatives shall be construed neither as inspection nor as approval of construction, unless stated otherwise. 7. During and after construction, the manufacture and/or owner shall not allow loads on the structures to exceed the limits of the design loads. 8. The liability of ECS -Florida, LLC for these structures shall be limited to the initial set by the manufacturer. No other warranty or liability is expressed or implied. 9. The location of these structures is the responsibility of the contractor to conform to all applicable permits, including but not limited to SJRWMD and City of Sanford. 10. The structures are not designed to be moved or relocated. 11. During the construction period, the manufacturer shall be responsible for the safety of the structure and all personnel around the structure. The contractor shall provide adequate shoring and bracing in accordance with all national, state, and local safety ordinances. 12. All construction procedures shall conform to OSHA Standards. Any deviation must be approved by OSHA prior to occurring. 13. Elevations shown on these drawings are based on the elevation provided by the Civil Engineer of Record. 14. Owner is required to install a fence and/or rail on top of the wall as per the 2004 Florida Building Code. 15. Segmental retaining wall system shall be in accordance with these specifications and in reasonably close conformity with the lines, grades, design, and dimensions shown on the plans or as established by the Owner or the Owner's Engineer. 16. The contractor shall inspect the material upon delivery to assure that proper type and grade material has been received. Reserve at Sanford Lake Mary Boulevard and US 17-92 Sanford, Seminole County, Florida SCALE: Not to Scale sheet 7 of 7 17. The contractor shall store and handle materials in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations. 18. The contractor shall protect the materials from damage.. Damaged material shall not be incorporated into the segmental retaining wall. 19. The perforated drainpipe with sock shown on the typical sections shall be a perforated or slotted, PVC or corrugated HDPE pipe where indicated. The pipe and draining backfill behind the wall shall be wrapped with a geotextile that will function as a filter. 20. The draining backfill shall be clean sand (SP, SW) meeting the following gradation as determined in accordance with ASTM D 422: Sieve Size Percent Passing 1 inch 100 3/4 inch 75-100 No. 4 0-60 No. 40 0-50 No. 200 0-5 21. Following excavation for the leveling pad, the foundation soil shall be examined by ECS -Florida, LLC Engineer or his representative to assure the actual foundation soil strength meets or exceeds the assumed design bearing strength. Soils not meeting the required strength shall be removed and replaced with soil meeting the design criteria, as directed by ECS -Florida, LLC. 22. A minimum of 6 inches of compacted granular material shall be placed as the leveling pad up to the grades and locations shown on the construction drawings. The granular base shall be compacted to provide firm, level bearing on which the first course of segmental retaining wall units can be placed. Compaction should be performed using a lightweight compactor, such as a mechanical plate compactor to obtain a minimum of 95 percent of the Modified Proctor Maximum Dry Density (ASTM D-1557). 23. All materials shall be installed at the proper elevation and orientation as shown in the wall details on the construction plans or as directed by the ECS -Florida, LLC. The concrete segmental wall units shall be installed din general accordance with the manufacture's recommendations. The drawing shall govern in any conflict between the two requirements. 24. Geosynthetic fabrics shall be Mirafi 140N or equivalent. 25. The overall toleration relative to the wall design vertically or batter shall not exceed f 1.25 inches maximum over a 10 -foot distance or 3 inches maximum. 26. Broken, chipped, stained, or otherwise damaged units shall not be placed in the wall unless they are approved by the owner. 27. Only hand -operated compaction equipment shall be allowed within 3 feet of the back of the wall face. Compaction within 3 feet of the back of the wall face units shall be achieved by at least three passes of a lightweight mechanical tamper, plate, or roller. Soil density in this area shall not be less than 93 percent of the Modified Proctor Maximum Dry Density. 28. Compaction of the remainder of the soil shall meet the requirements of 95 percent of the Modified Proctor Maximum Dry Density. 29. At the end of each day's operation, the contractor shall slope the last level of backfill away from the wall, facing a direct runoff of rainwater away from the wall face. In addition, the contractor shall not allow surface runoff form adjacent areas to enter the wall construction site. 30. Free draining backfill shall be placed to a minimum finished thickness and widths shown on the construction plans. 31. Drainage collection pipes shall be installed to maintain gravity flow of water outside of the back of wall zone. The drainage collection pipes should daylight into a storm sewer manhole or along a slope at an elevation lower than the lowest point of the pipe within the aggregate drain. 32. The perforated drainpipe with sock shall be a minimum of 4 inches in diameter. Drainage laterals should be slopped a minimum of 2 percent to provide gravity flow away from the perforated drainpipe. Drainage laterals shall be spaced at a maximum spacing of 50 feet. 33. Cap block and/or top SRW units shall be bonded o the SRW units shall be bonded to the SRW units below using tow beads of construction adhesive that meets ASTM D3498 and HUF/FHA use of materials bulletin #60 (titebond heavy :uty construction adhesive or equal). 34. All construction shall be in conformance with the guidelines set forth in the hedi Rock Installation Manual.
