DUCTILE IRON RETAINER GLANDS Mechanical Joint Retainer Glands are designed to provide a method for restrain- ing mechanical joint pipe and fittings and other standardized mechanical joints . against possible joint separation, rupture or blow-out caused by internal water pressure. The set screws are square -headed with Type C knurled cup points, and are shipped already assembled in the Glands. They are manufactured of 4140 grade alloy steel, and are heat treated to a Rockwall "C" 45/ 53 case hardness. Tee -head bolts and gaskets are not included, but may be ordered separately. Recommended torque for set screws is 75 foot pounds, and set screws on opposite sides of the glands should be tightened alternately. Tee -head bolt hole size and spacing are equal to MJ Glands as shown in AWWA C- 1 1 1 . Standard mechanical Joint gaskets as shown in C-1 11 should be used. Tyler Pipe/Utilities Division • P.O. PRODUCT NAME MICROFAST® AND MicrofastHP®_QUICK RESPONSE PENDENT SPRINKLERS tThe Sprinkler Identification Number (SIN) is stamped on the sprinkler deflector. 2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Viking Microfast® and MicrofastHP® Quick Response Pendent Sprinklers are small thermosensitive glass bulb spray sprinklers available in various finishes, temperature ratings, and orifice sizes to meet design.requirements. The special Poly finishes and Teflon® coatings can be used in decorative applications where colors are desired. In addition, these finishes have been investigated for installation in corrosive atmospheres and are cULus listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Chart. (Note: FM Global has no approval classification for Teflon® and Poly finishes as corrosion resistant.) The pip cap and sealing assembly of the sprinkler are held in place by the glass bulb operating element. During fire con- ditions, the heat -sensitive liquid in the glass bulb expands, causing the bulb to shatter, releasing the pip cap and sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern to extinguish or control the fire. 4. TECHNICAL DATA LISTINGS AND APPROVALS cULus Listed: Category VNIV FM Approved: Class 2020 Refer the Approval Chart on page 41 c and Design Criteria on page 41 d for cULus and FM approval requirements that must be followed. CHARACTERISTICS • Minimum Operating Pressure: 7 psi (0,5 bar) • Maximum Working Pressure: Sprinklers 12282 and 12290 are rated for use with water working pressures ranging from the minimum 7 psi (0,5 bar) up to 250 psi (17,2 bar) for high-pressure systems. High-pressure (HP) sprinklers can be identified by locating "250" stamped on the deflector. All other Part Nos. not mentioned above are rated to a maximum 175 psi (12 bar) wwp. • Factory tested hydrostatically to 500 psi (34,5 bar) • Testing: U.S.A. NO. 1009680 OTHERS PATENTS PENDING POTTER ELECTRIC, Rd., 1990 GENERAL INFORMATION The Model VSR-F is a vane type waterflow switch for use on wet sprinkler systems. It is UL Listed and FM Approved for use on steel pipe; schedules 10 through 40, sizes 2" thru 8". LPC approved sizes are 2" thru 8" (50mm thru 200mm). The unit may also be used as a sectional waterflow detector on large systems. The unit contains two single pole, double throw, snap action switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated when a flow of 10 gallons per minute or more occurs downstream of the device. The flow condition must exist for a period of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period. ENCLOSURE: The unit is enclosed in a general purpose, die- cast housing. The cover is held in place with two tamper resistant screws which require a special key for removal. A field installable cover tamper switch is available as an option which may be used to indicate unauthorized removal of the cover. See bulletin no. 5400775 for installation instructions of this switch. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" of a fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow or within 24" of a valve or drain. Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a circular saw in a slow speed drill. The 2" (50mm) and 2 1/2" (65mm) devices require a hole with a diameter of 1 1/4" + 1/8" - 1/16" (33mm ±2mm). All other sizes require a hole with a diameter of 2" ±1/8" (50mm ±2mm). Clean the inside pipe of all growth or other material for a distance equal to the pipe diameter on either side of the hole. Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so that the arrow on the saddle points in the direction of the waterflow. Install the saddle strap and tighten nuts alternately to an eventual 50 ft -lbs. of torque (see Fig, 2). The vane must not rub the inside of the pipe or bind in any way. TESTING The frequency of inspection and testing for the model VSR-F and its associated protective monitoring system should be in accordance with applicable NFPA Codes and Standards and/or the authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or more frequently). If provided, the inspector's test valve, that is usually located at the end of the most remote branch line, should always be used for test purposes. If there are no provisions for testing the operation of the flow detection device on the system, application of the VSR-F is not recommended or advisable. A minimum flow of 10 gpm is required to activate this device. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please advise the person responsible for testing of the fire protection system that this system must be tested in accordance with the testing instructions.
