GENERAL
The Fire-Lite MS-521 OUD is a 24-volt, ten -zone fire alarm
control panel with built-in communicator and remote -site
Upload/Download capability (requires panel software revi-
sion #MS52103.0 or greater). The integral communicator
transmits event information (alarms, troubles, supervi-
sories, faults, etc.) to a UL listed central station. Select-
able transmission formats allow the MS-521OUD to com-
municate to virtually all central stations.
FEATURES
Ten programmable Initiating Device Circuits (zones).
Each zone may be programmed for:
Two -wire smoke detectors.
N.O. contact devices (pull, heat).
Four -wire smoke detectors.
Waterflow operation (silenceable or nonsilenceable).
Supervisory operation.
Auto -reset supervisory operation.
Remote switch for Reset, Drill, Silence and Acknowl-
edge.
Auto -reset or latching, critical and noncritical process
monitoring.
Zones programmed for process monitoring require a
contact closure for activation and can be used to monitor:
Temperature (high/low temp).
Water level.
Refrigeration.
Gas detection.
Tamper (non -fire).
Loss of air flow.
Open/Close.
Two built-in, Class B (Style Y) Notification Appliance
Circuits (NACs) — expandable to four.
Notification Appliance Circuits may be programmed:
Silenceable.
Non-Silenceable (a strobe circuit can keep flashing
after the panel is silenced).
Auto -Silence (program 5 to 30 minutes).
Silence Inhibit (60 seconds).
Coding (March Time, Temporal, California).

INITIATING DEVICE CIRCUITS (ZONES)
The MS-5210UD includes ten programmable Class B Initi-
ating Device Circuits (zones). Use the CAC-10F Class A
converter module to convert all Class B IDC's/NAC's to
Class A.
Each zone may support two -wire smoke detectors. Pro-
gramming options include:
Normally Open Contact devices (pull, heat).
Four -wire smoke detectors.

All circuits are power -limited and fully supervised. They
allow up to 100 ohms of line resistance and allow for use of
12 to 18 AWG wire.
NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE CIRCUITS
Two Style Y (Class B) @ 3.0 amps each. Use the CAC-
10F Class A Converter Module to convert all Class B
NAC's and IDC's to Class A.
Option module adds two Style Z (Class A) NACs @ 1.5
amps each.
All circuits are fully power -limited and meet the new UL
power -limiting requirements effective May 1, 1995, using
fuseless technology.

viding up to 16 zones of Alarm (red) annunciation and com-
mon system trouble LED. Mounts to 4-gang electrical box

LDM Series: Lamp Driver Module series for use with
custom graphic annunciators.
ACM-8RF: Remote Form-C relay module. Provides eight
mappable Form-C relays driven by EIA-485 for contact -by -
zone capability (two minimum required for contact -by -zone).
Each requires ABS-8RF for mounting.

CABINET SPECIFICATIONS
The cabinet is red with a dark blue overlay. Knockouts on
the top, sides, and back provide ease of wire entry. The

Product Overview
Plug-in detector line — mounting base System Sensor's i3- series smoke detectors represent a significant advancement in
included conventional detection. The 13 family is founded on three principles: Installation ease,
Intelligence, and Instant inspection.
Large wire entry port
In -line terminals with SEMS screws Installation ease. The V line redefines installation ease with its plug-in design.
This allows an installer to pre -wire the bases included with the heads. The large
Mounts to octagonal and single -gang wire entry port and in -line terminals provide ample room for neatly routing the
backboxes, 4-square baekboxes, or wiring inside the base. The base accommodates a variety of back box mount -
direct to ceiling ing methods as well as direct mounting with drywall anchors. To complete
the installation, i3 heads plug-in to the base with a simple Stop -Drop 'N Lock
Stop -Drop 'N Lock- attachment to base action.
Removable detector cover and chamber Intelligence. i3 detectors offer a number of intelligent features to simplify
for easy cleaning testing and maintenance. Drift compensation and smoothing algorithms are
standard with the i3 line, to minimize nuisance alarms. When connected to the
Built-in remote maintenance signaling 2W-MOD2 loop test/maintenance module, or a panel equipped with the i3
protocol, 2-wire i3 detectors are capable of generating a remote maintenance

Architect/Engineer Specifications
Smoke detector shall be a System Sensor
i3 Series model number , listed to
Underwriters Laboratories UL 268 for Fire
Protection Signaling Systems. The detector
shall be a photoelectric type (model 2W-B,
4W-B) or a combination photoelectric/
thermal (model 2WT-B, 4WT-B) with ther-
mal sensor rated at 135°F (57.2°C). The
detector shall include a mounting base for
mounting to 31/i-inch and 4-inch octagonal,
single gang, and 4-inch square back boxes
Electrical Soecifications
with a plaster ring, or direct mount to the
ceiling using drywall anchors. Wiring con-
nections shall be made by means of SEMS
screws. The detector shall allow pre -wiring
of the base and the head shall be a plug-
in type. The detector shall have a nomi-
nal sensitivity of 2.5% per foot nominal
as measured in the UL smoke box. The
detector shall be capable of automatically
adjusting its sensitivity by means of drift
compensation and smoothing algorithms.
The detector shall provide dual color LED
indication which blinks to indicate power
up, normal standby, out of sensitivity,
alarm, and freeze trouble (model 2WT-B,
4WT-B) conditions. When used in conjunc
tion with the 2W-MOD2 module, 2-wire
models shall include a maintenance signal
to indicate the need for maintenance at the
alarm control panel, and shall provide a
loop testing capability to verify the circuit
without testing each detector individually.

GENERAL
The FCPS-24FS8 is a compact, cost-effective, 8-amp re-
mote power supply with battery charger. The FCPS-24FS8
may be connected to any 12- or 24-volt Fire Alarm Control
Panel (FACP) or may stand alone. Primary applications
include Notification Appliance (bell) Circuit (NAC) expan-
sion (to support ADA requirements and NAC synchroniza-
tion) or auxiliary power to support 24-volt system acces-
sories. The FCPS-24FS8 provides regulated and filtered
24 VDC power to four Notification Appliance Circuits con-
figured as either four Class B (Style Y) or Class A (Style Z,
with ZNAC-4 option module). Alternately, the four outputs
may be configured as all non-resettable or all resettable
or two non-resettable and two resettable. The FCPS-
24FS8 also contains a battery charger capable of charg-
ing up to 18 Amp Hour batteries.
FEATURES
UL Listed NAC Synchronization using System Sensor,
Wheelock, or Gentex (Commander Series) appliances.
Cascadable up to 10 power supplies (four with Gentex)
with sirobe iiming maintained.
Operates as a sync follower or a sync generator (default).

Contains two, fully -isolated input/control circuits (trig-
gered from FACP Notification Appliance Circuit [NAC
expander mode] or jumpered permanently on [stand-
alone mode]).
Optional mounting kit, P/N 90286, to internally house
addressable SLC control module (CRF-300 or CMF-
300) for alarm activation.
Four Class B (Style Y) or four Class A (Style Z) (with ZNAC-
4 Module) Notification Appliance Circuits.
8.0 A full load output (3.0 A maximum per circuit) in NAC
expander mode (UL 864).
6.0 A continuous output in stand-alone mode (UL 1481).
Compatible with coded inputs; signals passed through.
Optional power supervision relay (A77-716B).
In stand-alone mode, output power circuits may be
configured as resettable (reset line from FACP required)
or non-resettable or a mix of two and two.
Fully regulated and filtered power output (optimal for
powering four -wire smoke detectors, annunciators and
other system peripherals requiring regulated/filtered

APPLICATIONS
Example 1
Expand notification appliance power an additional 8.0
amps. Use up to 4 Class B (Style Y) outputs or 4 Class A
Style Z) using the ZNAC-4.
In this example, the FACP notification appliance circuits
will activate the FCPS-24FS8 when reverse polarity activa-
tion occurs. Trouble conditions on the FCPS-24FS8 are
sensed by the FACP through the Notification Appliance
circuit.
Example 2
Use the FCPS-24FS8 to expand auxiliary regulated 24 volt
system power up to 6.0 amps. Both non-resettable and
resettable power options are available.
Resettable outputs are created by connecting the resettable
output from the FACP to one or both of the FCPS-24FS8
inputs.
Example 3
Use addressable control modules to activate the FCPS-
24FS8 versus the FACP Notification Appliance Circuits.
This typically allows for mounting the FCPS-24FS8 at
greater distances" away from the FACP while expanding
system architecture in various applications.
In this example, an addressable control module is used
to activate the FCPS-24FS8 and an addressable monitor
module is used to sense FCPS-24FS8 trouble conditions.
Local auxiliary power output from the FCPS-24FS8 pro-
vides power to the addressable control module.
Fire•Lite's MS-9200 (198-point), MS-92000D, or MS-9600 (636-
point) addressable FACPs have the capability of locating control
and monitor modules up to 10,000 feet (3048 m)away.
Sync Follower/Generator Note: In some installations, it
is necessary to synchronize the flash timing of all strobes
in the system for ADA compliance. Strobes accomplish
this by m nitcring --hart t;..,;..g r.,.b.GG 0.—. atir. r.inr
power, which are created by a Fire Alarm Control Panel
such as the Fire-Lite MS-9600. When installed at the end
of a MS-9600 NAC wire run, this power supply can track
i.e., "follow") the strobe synchronization timing pulses on
the existing NAC wire run. This maintains the overall sys-
tem flash timing of the additional strobes attached to this
power supply.
When this power supply is configured (via DIP switch
settings) as a "sync follower," this supply's NAC outputs
track the strobe synchronization pulses present at this
supply's sync input terminal. The pulses are originated
from an upstream FACP or other power supply.
When this power supply is configured (via DIP switch
settings) as a "sync generator," this supply's sync input
terminal are not used. Rather, this power supply is the
originator of the strobe synchronization pulses on this
power supply's NAC outputs. In "sync generator" mode,
the sync type (System Sensor, Wheelock, or Gentex) is
selectable via DIP switch settings.

These calculations assume a worst -case source voltage as measured by UL with the batteries depleted to 20.4 volts. Under AC
power and for most of the drain cycle of the batteries, the circuit voltages will be substantially higher and thus, would
support a greater number of devices. A device's minimum operating voltage is derived from the UL-requirement that it
work down to 80% of its rated (published) minimum operating voltage.

Selectable Output
Notification Devices
SpectrAlert' Advance selectable -output horns, strobes,
and horn/strobes are rich with features guaranteed to
cut installation times and maximize profits.
The Spec-,Y tiert Azl va ice series of notification appliances is
designed to simplify your installations, with features such as: plug in
designs, instant feedback messages to ensure correct installation of
individual devices, and eleven field -selectable candela settings for
wall and ceiling strobes and horn/strobes.
More specifically, when installing Advance products, first attach a
universal mounting plate to a four -inch square, four -inch octagon or
double -gang junction box. The two -wire mounting plate attaches to
a si ng le-ga ng j u nction box.
Then; connect the notification appliance circuit wiring to the 5EMS
terminals on the mounting plate.
Finally, attach the horn, strobe or horn/strobe to the mounting plate
by inserting the product's tabs in the mounting plate's grooves. The
device will rotate into position, locking the product's pins into the
mounting plate's terminals. The device will temporarily hold in place
with a catch until it is secured with a captured mounting screw.
SpectrAlert Advance products allow you to choose:
12 or 24 volts
At 24 volts, 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 110, 115, 135, 150, 177 or 185
candela by way of rear -mounted slide switch and front viewing

The SpectrAlert Advance series includes outdoor notification
appliances. Outdoor strobes and horn/strobes (two wire and four
wire) are available for wall or ceiling. Outdoor horns are available for
wall only. All System Sensor outdoor products are rated between

Alert Advance Specifications
General
SpectrAlert Advance horns, strobes and horn/strobes shall mount to a standard 4 x 4 x I lb -inch back box, 4-inch octagon back box or double -gang back box.
Two -wire products shall also mount to a single -gang 2 x 4 x 176-inch back box. A universal mounting plate shall be used for mounting ceiling and wall products.
The notification appliance circuit wiring shall terminate at the universal mounting plate. Also, SpectrAlert Advance products, when used with the Sync -
Circuit -Module accessory, shall be powered from a non -coded notification appliance circuit output and shall operate on a nominal 12 or 24 volts. When used with the
Sync -Circuit Module, 12-volt rated notification appliance circuit outputs shall operate between nine and 17.5 volts; 24-volt rated notification appliance circuit
outputs shall operate between 17 and 33 volts. Indoor SpectrAlert Advance products shall operate between 32 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit from a regulated
DC, or full -wave rectified, unfiltered power supply. Strobes and horn/strobes shall have field -selectable candela settings including 15,15/75, 30, 75, 95,110,115,
135, 150, 177, 185.
Strobe
The strobe shall be a System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance Model listed to UL 1971 and shall be approved for fire protective service.The strobe shall be
wired as a primary -signaling notification appliance and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for visible signaling appliances, flashing at
1 Hz over the strobe's entire operating voltage range.The strobe light shall consist of a xenon flash tube and associated lens/reflector system.
Horn/Strobe Combination
The horn/strobe shall be a System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance Model listed to UL 1971 and UL 464 and shall be approved for fire protective service.
The horn/strobe shall be wired as a primary -signaling notification appliance and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for visible
signaling appliances, flashing at 1 Hz over the strobe's entire operating voltage range.The strobe light shall consist of a xenon flash tube and associated
lens/reflector system.The horn shall have three audibility options and an option to switch between a temporal three -pattern and a non -temporal (continuous)
pattern.These options are set by a multiple position switch. On four -wire products, the strobe shall be powered independently of the sounder.The horn on
horn/strobe models shall operate on a coded or non -coded power supply.
Outdoor Products
SpectrAlert Advance outdoor horns, strobes and horn/strobes shall be listed for outdoor use by UL and shall operate between minus 40 degrees and 151
degrees Fahrenheit. The products shall be listed for use with a System Sensor outdoor/weatherproof back box with half inch and three -fourths inch conduit
entries.
Synchronization Module
The module shall be a System Sensor Sync•Circuit listed to UL 464 and shall be approved for fire protective service. The module shall synchronize
SpectrAlert strobes at 1 Hz and horns at temporal three. Also, while operating the strobes, the module shall silence the horns on horn/strobe models over a
single pair of wires. The module shall mount to a 06 x 06 x A -inch back box.The module shall also control two Style Y (class B) circuits or one Style Z (class
A) circuit. The module shall synchronize multiple zones. Daisy chaining two or more synchronization modules together will synchronize all the zones they
control. The module shall not operate on a coded power supply.

CHARGING
Cycle Applications: Limit initial current to 2.1A. Charge until battery
voltage (under charge) reaches 14.40 to 14.70 volts at 68OF (20"C).
Hold at 14.40 to 14.70 volts until current drops to approximately 70mA.
Battery is fully charged under these conditions, and charger should
either be disconnected or switched to "float" voltage.
Float" or "Stand -By" Service: Hold battery across constant volt-
age source of 13.50 to 13.80 volts continuously. When held at this
voltage, the battery will seek its own current level and maintain itself
in a fully charged condition.
NOTE: Due to the self -discharge characteristics of this type of bat-
tery, it is imperative that they be charged after 6-9 months of stor-
age, otherwise permanent loss of capacity might occur as a result of
sulfation.
