C 0 Ni Structural Analysis Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ORD220 Tower KCI Technologies, Inc. has completed a structural analysis of the ORD220 Tower, Cingular site Sanford, 7653, OR028. Metro PCS is proposing to add appurtenances to the tower. KCI studied a single loading case, which consisted of the existing, proposed and future appurtenances with a 120-mph (3-second gust) wind loading per the 2004 Florida Building Code for Seminole County. This analysis assumes proposed and future transmission lines shall be mounted outside the monopole in a flush configuration. The results of this analysis indicate that some of the tower structural members will exceed the allowable stress limits established by the TIA/EIA-222-F standard for the proposed appurtenance configuration at the specified loadings. Modifications described briefly herein and in Modification Drawings, Appendix A, will alleviate these overstresses. KCI conducted a geophysical investigation and geotechnical investigation to determine the capacity of the existing foundations. Based on the results of these investigations, KCI has determined the foundation is adequate for the proposed tower loading. During the investigation, KCI was also able to verify the anchor bolts are in a four -corner configuration versus a bolt circle, which increased the capacity and the anchor bolts are acceptable as well. Refer to Geophysical Report, Appendix B for further details on the foundation. The purpose of this report is to assess the feasibility of adding antennas and transmission lines to the existing structure, including whether or not structural modifications are required. Any modifications recommended herein are conceptual only. This is not a construction document. This report may not be suitable for bidding and definitely is not a substitute for complete and properly engineered plans/specifications required to accomplish any recommended modifications. KCI Technologies, Inc. assumes no liability for use of this report for any other purpose than that for which it was intended. KCI TECHNOLOGIES, INC. Employee -Owned Since 1988 W W W .KCI . C O M Structural Analysis Report A.PURPOSE/BACKGROUND ORD220 Tower Pursuant to the request of Mr. Erik Nelson with Metro PCS, KCI Technologies, Inc. was retained to conduct a structural analysis of the ORD220 Tower. Metro PCS is proposing to add appurtenances to the tower. Metro PCS provided the following information: Cingular Conditional Preliminary Approval Letter dated May 10, 2006. Cingular Application for Co -Location. Recent photographs of the tower. KCI ordered a geotechnical investigation from Tierra, project number 6511-06-194, dated July 10, 2006. The following information was provided to KCI for a previous analysis: Tower analysis report by Pate Engineering, dated January 17, 2002. Tower analysis report by Pacific 17, dated July 19, 2001. Tower design plans by EEI, Job No. FL 1413, dated January 5, 1995. B. CONDITIONS INVESTIGATED The 180-ft monopole was designed and manufactured by EEI. The ORD220 tower is located at 411 W. 14th St., Sanford, Seminole County, Florida. KCI analyzed the monopole with a proprietary spreadsheet and STAAD Software by Research Engineers Inc. The Monopole, as indicated on original tower plans, is 180' AGL. KCI field personnel physically and electronically measured the exposed foundations. The exposed foundations are approximately eight feet (8') in diameter and eleven inches (11)" above grade. Field personnel probed around the foundation to determine if the below grade foundations are pads and piers or caissons. It was determined that the existing foundations are caissons. The testing procedure used to determine concrete thickness is the Pulse Echo Method (PEM). The PEM involves recording low strain stress -waves reflected from deeper within the drilled shaft using an accelerometer. The accelerometer, which measures signal travel time, is placed on the properly prepared surface and impacted with a hand held hammer. The generated stress - wave propagates down the shaft and is reflected back to the top. The reflections, as well as the original impact, are electronically recorded by the accelerometer at the top. A change in impedance (void or defect) will change the reflection response. While KCI makes great efforts to ensure that the data presented herein is accurate, there are many potential sources for defects/anomalies when constructing concrete foundations, drilled shafts, etc. Therefore KCI does not warranty any aspect of this report and the data contained within, only that our work and judgments reported meet the standard of care of our profession. As noted above, there are potential defects/anomalies in concrete properties due to poor construction techniques, cold joints, debris, factures/breaks, voids, soil intrusion, etc. Because of possible defects/anomalies the results of our wave propagation may only reflect the depth to that defect/anomaly within the foundation and not the desired length/size for optimum foundation capacity. There are also several other factors that may negatively affect the accurate sizing of foundations. Some examples of this include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Existing/Modified Foundations that were created in two or more pours could create "cold joints" that make wave analysis extremely difficult or impossible to interpret. 2. Deep pad and pier foundations that cannot be probed/sized due to depth, rocky soil conditions, etc. 3. Foundations that are embedded in rock. 4. The presence of piles underneath the existing foundation. 5. Concrete overspill at the top and non -uniformly poured concrete below grade may result in a larger/smaller reported foundation size. Many times overspill will be limited to one side and therefore the other three sides are used to determine the average foundation size. 6. KCI makes a great effort to determine the actual size of the foundation, however there are times when hand excavations and probing are not enough to determine the actual size of the foundation and use of backhoes may be limited due to surrounding buildings, fences and the structure itself. There may also exist safety concerns, such as additional shoring and dewatering if extensive excavations are needed. 7. Some of the physical limitations that cannot be indicated are as follows: a. The toe reflection when the length to depth ratio exceeds 20 in hard soils and 60 in soft soils. b. Gradual changes in cross section. c. Minor inclusions and changes in cross-section smaller than (±) 25%. d. Impedance changes of small axial dimension. e. Small variations in length. f. Features located below either a fully cracked cross section or a major (1:2) change in impedance. g. Debris at the toe. h. Deviations from the straight line and from the vertical. i. Load -carrying capacity, soil classification, structural capacity, etc. Cingular Site: Sanford, 7653, OR028 Foundation Inspection Report —180' Monopole KCI Project Number: 12065000 L Photographs and Photograph Log Photograph 1— Tower base- caisson Photograph 2 — Tower base - caisson June 28, 2006 Page 6 of 7 Cingular Site: Sanford, 7653, OR028 Foundation Inspection Report —180' Monopole KCI Project Number: 12065000 L Photograph 3 — Existing compound Photograph 4 — Antenna profile June 28, 2006 Page 7 of 7
