Remove vinyl siding and aluminum soffits 3. Replace porch columns (Withdrawn) 4. Remove screen enclosure from front porch 5. Demolish garage and replace with new garage 6. Demolish guest house and walkway 7. Paint house (staff approval). 8. Replace porch floor with 3/4X1X3 pine flooring 9. Remove existing wood fence, spa and wood deck 10. Reroof house with grey architectural shingles (staff approval) Background: This house was built in 1919 for C. A. Betts. It is a side hall, gable roof vernacular house. Based on building permit files, the garage and guest house were constructed in 1982 and are noncontributing. Consistency with Schedule S: 1. Metal awnings are inconsistent with the period and style of the house and should be removed. 2. The siding and soffits are inconsistent with the period and style of the house and should be removed. The applicant will restore the original siding underneath. To date, the applicant has not been able to determine the condition or style of the original siding under the vinyl. 3. Porch columns (Withdrawn). 4. The screen enclosure on the front porch is not original and should be removed. 5. The existing garage is a noncontributing structure that does not add to the historic character of the property. The applicant is proposing to demolish the garage and construct a new one. The new garage will have wood siding that matches the original house siding. The automatic garage doors will be of a composite material. The human doors will be wood. The new garage is consistent with the historic preservation regulations except that it will require a 5' side yard setback instead of the 4' setback noted on the plan. 6. The guest house is a noncontributing structure dating from 1982. The owner attests that the guest house floods and is lower than the alley. The guest house is on the adjacent lot and its removal will allow this lot to be used for a new house. The demolition of the garage and guest house is consistent with section 11.0 of Schedule S, the criteria for demolition. 7. Paint house (approved by staff) 8. Remove plywood front porch floor and replace with 3/4X1X3 pine board flooring. This is an improvement over the existing plywood flooring and consistent with the vernacular style of the CITY OF SANFORD DEMOLITION Building Division Acknowledgement A. Permit Application B.
