escrep on
The Central Model H, 5.6 K -factor
Recessed Pendent Sprinklers are
automatic sprinklers of the fusible solder
type. They are standard response -
standard orifice spray sprinklers
intended for use in fire sprinkler
systems designed in accordance with
the standard installation rules recog-
nized by the applicable Listing or
Approval agency (e.g., UL Listing is
based on NFPA 13 requirements).
The Central Model H Recessed
Pendent Sprinklers incorporate a center
strut mechanism with a special two-
piece recessed escutcheon assembly
permitting 1/2" of field -adjustment.
Unlike most other recessed sprinklers,
the upper escutcheon support piece is
factory installed on the base of the
sprinkler frame, assuring a Listed
installation. The ceiling escutcheon
plate is easily installed after the
sprinkler is in place either by the
standard 'push -on" escutcheon or the
special "thread -on" escutcheon. This
feature allows removal of ceiling panels
for easy access to ceiling equipment
without taking the system out of service
to remove the sprinkler.
Operation: A fusible alloy is sealed into
a bronze actuating rod (center strut) by
a stainless steel ball. When the alloy
melts at its rated temperature, the ball is
forced upward into the center strut,
releasing the two ejectors and operating
the sprinkler.
WARNING
The Model H Recessed Pendent
Sprinklers described herein must be
installed and maintained in compliance
with this document, as well as with the
applicable standards of the National
The owner is responsible for maintain-
ing their fire protection system and
devices in proper operating condition.

13 Installation
The Model H Recessed Pendent
Sprinklers must be installed in accor-
dance with the following instructions.
NOTES
A leak tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint
should be obtained with a torque of 7 to
14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A maximum
of 21 fLlbs. (28,5 Nm) of torque is to be
used to install 1/2 inch NPT sprinklers.
Higher levels of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage
or impairment of the sprinkler.
Do not attempt to make up for insuffi-
cient adjustment in the escutcheon plate
by under- or overtightening the sprin-
kler. Readjust the position of the
sprinkler fitting to suit.
Step 1. Pendent sprinklers must be
installed only in the pendent position.
The deflector is to be parallel to the
ceiling, roof, or mounting surface, as
applicable.
Step 2. With pipe thread sealant applied
to the pipe threads, hand tighten the
sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting.
Step 3. Tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting using only the Universal
Wrench (Ref. Figure 4). With reference
to Figure 1 or 2, the Universal Wrench
is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench
flats only.
After the ceiling has been installed or
the finish coat has been applied, slide
on the Model A/H Recessed Escutcheon
over the Model H Recessed Sprinkler
and push -on or thread on the recessed
escutcheon until its flange comes in
contact with the ceiling.
Installation of the Model A/H Reccesed
Escutcheon can be accomplished by
hand or by using the Recessed
Escutcheon Tool (Ref. Figure 5) and a
telescoping pole assembly. Every
Model H Recessed Escutcheon has 4
tabs on the interior opening of the
escutheon. By matching these tabs to
the corresponding groove on the
Recessed Escutcheon Tool and with
the telescoping pole attached, the
recessed escutcheon can be installed
without the aid of a ladder. Care should
be exercised to assure that the Actuator
Rod and Ejector Springs of the sprinkler
are not dammaged during the installa-
tion of the recessed escutcheon.

Care &
Maintenance
The Model H Recessed Pendent
Sprinklers must be maintained and
serviced in accordance with the
foiiowing instructions.
NOTE S
Absence of an escutcheon which is
used to cover a clearance hole, may
delay the time to operation in a fire
situation.
Before closing a Fre protection
system main control valve for
maintenance work on the fire
protection system it controls,
permission to shut down the
affected fire protection systems
must be obtained from the proper
authorities. All personnel who may
be affected by this action must be
notified.
Sprinklers which are found to be
leaking or exhibiting visible signs of
corrosion must be replaced.
Automatic sprinklers must never be
shipped or stored where their
temperatures will exceed 100°F/
38°C and they must never be
painted, plated, coated or otherwise
altered after leaving the factory.
Modified sprinklers must be
replaced. Sprinklers that have been
exposed to corrosive products of
combustion, but have not operated,
should be replaced if they cannot
be completely cleaned by wiping the
sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing
it with a soft bristle brush.
Care must be exercised to avoid
damage - before, during, and after
installation. Sprinklers damaged by
dropping, striking, wrench twist/
slippage, or the like, must be
replaced.
The owner is responsible for the
inspection, testing, and mainte-
nance of their fire protection system
and devices in compliance with this
document, as well as with the
applicable standards of the National
Fire Protection Association (e.g.,
NFPA 25), in addition to the
standards of any other authorities
having jurisdiction. The installing

# Proper hole preparation is required for effective sealing and performance. Check the pipe seal surface within 5/e" of the hole to be certain it is free from conditions
which would affect proper gasket sealing. Remove any sharp or rough edges from the hole or upper housing contact area, which might affect assembly, proper
seating of the locating collar or flow from the outlet. Check gasket grade to be certain it is suitable for the service. For crosses, ensure double outlet holes are
aligned on opposite sides of the pipe. The use of threaded products other than steel pipe, such as dry pendents, etc. may not be compatible with the female
threaded outlet on the Mechanical Tee. Always confirm compatibility by contacting Tyco Fire Products.
Note: Outlet threads conforming to BSP are available, contact Tyco Fire Products for details.

t Proper hole preparation is required for effective sealing and performance. Check the pipe seal surface within 5/e' of the hole to be certain it is free from
conditions which would affect proper gasket sealing. Remove any sharp or rough edges from the hole or upper housing contact area, which might affect
assembly, proper seating of the locating collar or flow from the outlet. Check gasket grade to be certain it is suitable for the service. For crosses, ensure
double outlet holes are aligned on opposite sides of the pipe. The use of threaded products other than steel pipe, such as dry pendents, etc. may not be
compatible with the female threaded outlet on the Mechanical Tee. Always confirm compatibility by contacting Tyco Fire Products.
Note: Outlet threads conforming to BSP are available, contact Tyco Fire Products for details.
General Notes: It is the Designer's responsibility to select products suitable for the intended service and to ensure
that pressure ratings and performance data is not exceeded. Always read and understand the installation
instructions (I1-1-1000). Never remove any piping component nor correct or modify any piping deficiencies 15O
without first depressurizing and draining the system. Material and gasket selection should be verified to be 9001
compatible for the specific application.

Ductile Iron threaded fittings (with
the exception of California Tees and
Street Elbows) conform to ANSI
B16.3. They are higher in strength
and more corrosion resistant than
cast iron fittings. The additional
strength is provided by the ductile
properties making up the fitting. This
is accomplished by adding
magnesium while the iron is being
poured into it final cast shape. This
provides an advantage as the
fittings are not as susceptible to
leaks or cracking and they are also
lighter than standard cast iron.
Caution: Installers who have not used
ductile iron threaded fittings before
should be instructed that the fittings
are stronger than the pipe and over -
tightening the fitting can create leaks
and cause damage to pipe threads. In
general, there is about one-half turn
difference between cast iron and
ductile iron fittings. Apply Teflon tape
or high quality pipe joint compound on
the male pipe threads and tighten two
to three turns beyond hand tight. If
you are using an automatic make -on
machine, please exercise caution in
setting your machine to the proper
parameters prior to tightening fittings
onto the male pipe threads.

DynamThread a
Full Line Sch-40 Replacement
Dyna -Thread offers the life expectancy of Sch40 with superior hydraulics and greater value.
Dyna -Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety
and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages.
7,
Comparison to Schedule 40'"'i
• Dyna -Thread's inside diameter is up
to 3.6% larger than Sch-40 giving it
superior hydraulics. And, when used
in combination with Dyna -Flow pipe
down sizing often occurs.
• Dyna -Thread is fully listed and
approved by UL, ULC, and FM for
fire sprinkler applications.
• The life expectancy of Dyna -Thread
and Sch-40 are equal based on the
calculated wall thicknesses per UL.
• The consistent quality of steel used to
make Dyna -Thread facilitates smooth
threading and lower maintenance
costs.
• The exterior of Dyna -Thread is
protected by a clean, durable mill
coating for extended shelf life and
easy paint application.

• With its increased strength and lighter
weight, Dyna -Thread reduces
installation fatigue and is ideal for
retro -fit applications.
• More wall thickness at the thread
(CRR=1.00) gives Dyna -Thread
better life expectancy than lightwall
threadable pipe joints.
Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a • Unlike lightwall threadable pipe,
UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for Dyna -Thread has no thread gauge
the estimated life expectancy of a pipe
joint. This is based on the calculated
wall thickness at the base of the first
exposed thread, assumed to be the
weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna -
Thread and Sch-40 have the same
calculated wall thicknesses at this point
and are both assigned the same CRR of
1.00.
The internal surface of all black Allied
Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe
products up to 4.5000" in diameter is
coated with our new Antibacterial
Formula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory
test, ABS proved to have superior
resistance to microbial colonization of
pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly
preventing the onset of
Microbiologically Influenced corrosion
(MIC) when the First Sprinkler System
is first installed.
warning.
• Dyna -Thread is approved for
standard hanger spacing (15 ft.
O.C.), can be used as earthquake
sway bracing, and is safe to use as
drops.
• Dyna -Thread is safer to weld on.
• Dyna -Thread is more widely
accepted than lightwall threadable
where Sch-40 is specified.
