HomeMy WebLinkAbout530ORDINANCE NO. 530 AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING ON EVERY INSURER EN- GAGED IN THE BUSINESS OF CASUALTY INSURING AN EXCISE OR LICENSE TAX IN ADDITION TO ANY LAWFUL LICENSE OR EXCISE TAX NOW LEVIED BY THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, AMOUNTING TO 1% OF THE GROSS A~OUNT OF RECEIPTS OF PREM- IUMS FROk POLICY HOLDERS ON ALL PREMIUMS COLLECTED OE CASUALTY INSURANCE POLICIES COVERING PROPERTY WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIM- ITS OF THE CITY OF SANFORD,FLORIDA; PRO- - VIDING FOR THE ~NNER OF PAYmeNT AND COL- LECTION THEREOF; APPROPRIATING THE R~NIES DERIVED FROi~ SUCH TAX TO THE PENSION FUND FOR POLIC~N; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE TE~qS OF SAID ORDINANCE. BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That in addition to any other lawful lic- ense or excise tax now levied by the City of Sanford, Florida, there is hereby assessed and imposed on every insurance company, corporation or other insurer now engaged in or carrying on, or who shall hereafter engage in or carry on, the business of cas- ualty insuring as shown by the records of the State Treasurer in his capacity as State Insurance Commissioner, an excise or li- cense tax in the ~aount of 1% of the gross amount of receipts of premiums from policyholders on all premiums collected on casual- ty insurance policies covering property within the corporate limits of the City of Sanford, Florida. SECTION 2. The excise or license tax herein provided for shall be payable and collected in the manner provided for by Chapter 282~0, Laws of Florida, Acts of 195~. SECTION ~. All monies received by the City of Sanford, Florida, under the provisions of this Ordinance shall be paid immediately into its pension fund for policemen. Con- tinuance of any violation of this Ordinance from day to day shall constitute a separate offense for each and every day or portion thereof during which such violation is continued, and any per- son, firm, association, or corporation convicted in the ~nic- ipal Court shall be punishable as hereinabove provided for each such offense upon which convicted.
