HomeMy WebLinkAbout725ORDINANCE NO. 725 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA AMENDING ARTICLE I1 TITLED SIGNBOARDS AND BILLBOARDS, CHAPTER 3, SECTIONS 3-4 THROUGH 3-8 INCLUSIVE. BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That Article II titled Sigabeards and Billboards, Chapter 3, Sections 3-4 through 3-8 inclusive, be and the same is hereby amended to read as fotlows: ARTICLE II. Signboards and Billboards. Section 3-4 Definitions: The definitions of signs and outdoor displays are as defined in Chapter XXIII of the Building Code of Sanford (Southern Standard Building Code). Section 3-5 Classification, Construction ~ Structural Re- quirements: All signs and Outdoor Displays sball be classified and meet the requirements of Chapter XXIII of the Building Code of Sanford. Section 3-6 Ground Signs: (Location) (a) All ground signs erected within 100 feet of the nearest curb line of the nearest street intersection, and with the lower edge of the face less than 9 feet above the average ground level, shall be set back from all property lines a distance equal to the overall height of the sign plus 5 feet. (b) Ground signs with the lower edge of the face 9 feet or more above the average ground level and maintaining clear vision below the lower edge of the face except for necessary supports and braces (as determined by the Building Official) may be located on private property as desired by the owner. (c) No sign shall be erected, constructed, or maintained in, on, or upon any public property, or public street or thorough- fare, of the City of Sanford except as hereinafter provided: The City Commission may, upon petition in writing, or upon recommendation of the City Manager, allow the erection of a sign or signs on French Avenue after a finding that said sign or signs are in the best interests if the City of Sanford provided the following conditions are met: (1) Materials shall be non-combustible. (2) Location shall be approved by the City Manager (3) Copy shall advertise a Downtown Business and show the direction thereto. (4) Lower face of sign shall be not less than 9 feet above the ground. (5) Owner shall furnish public liability insurance in amount as approved by the City Commission. (6) Sign shall meet all requirements of Chapter XXIII of Sanford Building Code. Section 3-7 Existing Signs: Signs erected and existing on the date of this ordinance may be maintained so long as, in the opinion of the City Manager or building official, the same are in and maintained in a good sate of repair and constitute no haZard visual or otherwise to traffic flow and pedestrian movement. SECTION 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be, and the same are hereby repealed. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.
