AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD,
FLORIDA AMENDING CHAPTER 8, THE CODE
OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, 1954,
AS AMENDED, SAID CHAPTER PROVIDING FOR
ELECTIONS '¢/ITHIN THE CITY OF SANFORD,
SAID AMENDMENT CHANGING SECTIONS 8-1,
8-2 and 8-6 THEREOF RELATING TO PROCLAMATION
OF THE MAYOR, NOTICE OF ELECTION, AND
APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIALS BY DECREASING THE
TIME PERIOD SPECIFIED THEREIN FROM THIRTY
DAYS TO TEN DAYS PRIOR TO ELECTIONS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Sections 8-1,8-2 and 8-6, The Code of
the City of Sanford, Florida, 1954, as amended, being a part of Chapter
8 of said Code relating to proclamation of the mayor, notice of election
and appointment of officials be, and the same are hereby amended to
read as follows:
Sec. 8 - 1. Notice--Time to be given; contents.
Not less than ten days prior to the holding of
any general or special election the mayor of the city
shall issue his proclamation giving notice of such election,
the date and purpose thereof, and the place where the same
will be held and the time of opening and closing of the polls,
and stating therein the names of the inspectors and clerk
who have been designated by the city commission for such
election.
Sec. 8 - 2. Same--Publication.
The notice of an election, provided for in the
preceding section shall be published one time at least
seven days prior to election in a newspaper published
in the city, and proof of publication thereof flied with
the city clerk. If there is no newspaper published in
the city for the period of time stated, such notice shall
be published by posting in three public places in the city,
and proof of such publication shall be made by affidavit
of the city clerk attached to a copy of such notice and
filed in his office.
Sec. 8 - 6. Officials--Apointment.
Not less than ten days prior to the holding of any
general or special election the city commissioners shall
appoint intelligent, discreet and fair-minded citizens
of the city as inspectors and clerks of such election,
all of whom shall be residents and registered voters
of the city, which appointees shall be named in the
mayor's proclamation as aforesaid. If the city commis-
sion shall fail to appoint inspectors and clerks of elections
at least two days before the date of election, the mayor
may appoint them.
SECTION 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith be, and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
