(FS 286.0105) AGENDA 1) Meeting call to order by Mayor Triplett. 2) Discussion regarding applicants for Chief of Police. 3) END THE MEETING. • • 2011-462 CITY COMMISSION MINUTES April 5, 2011 SPECIAL WORK SESSION The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Special Work Session on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7 P.M., in the Railroad Depot Room, 2 nd Floor, City Hall, 300 North Park Avenue, Sanford, Florida. Present: Mayor Jeff Triplett Vice Mayor Patty Mahany Commissioner Mark M ° Carty Commissioner Velma Williams Interim City Manager Tom George Assistant City Attorney Lonnie Groot City Clerk Janet Dougherty Administrative Specialist Pat Lee Absent: Commissioner Randy Jones 1) Meeting call to order by Mayor Triplett. Mayor Triplett called the Special Work Session to order at 7:20 P.M. 2) Discussion regarding applicants for Chief of Police. Mayor Triplett stated that he felt this was a great group of candidates and opened the floor for any discussion. Commissioner Mahany stated she felt each candidate was uniquely qualified and that she would not be unhappy with any of them and appreciated Mr. George letting the Commission take part and gave her full strength and support to Mr. George. Commissioner Williams noted the Charter says the City Manager makes the final decision but thinks he should take very seriously the Commissions' opinions as • the Commission is ultimately responsible for the Chief. 2011-463 CITY COMMISSION MINUTES April 5, 2011 SPECIAL WORK SESSION Mr. George stated if things go smoothly tomorrow, he will determine the best candidate for the position, do some checking and then start the negotiating process. CITY MANAGER SEARCH: Mr. George stated that he needed guidelines and priorities regarding the search for a new City Manager and asked if the Commission was available to meet with Mr. Arrington on Wednesday, April 13 There was consensus among the Commission to schedule the Retreat for Wednesday afternoon, April 13 in the Railroad Depot Room. Discussion concerning whether or not the search should be national or • state -wide ensued. Mr. George asked that each Commissioner review the draft brochure prepared by the consultant and mark any changes they desired. Mr. George thanked the Commission for their involvement in the search for a new Police Chief. 3) END THE MEETING. / There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:56 P.M.
