The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in regular session at the
City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. January 27, 1941.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Minutes of adjourned regular annual meeting of January 9th, and regular meeting of
January 13th, 1941 next read and approved.
Consideration next given to the dissatisfaction of the members of the shuffleboard
Club with the reorganization of the Club and placing the courts under the management
and supervision of the City Recreation Department.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, Commissioner Higgins moved that Mayor Hill
be designated to confer with the members of the shuffleboard club with a view to working
out a plan for the operation of the courts that will be agreeable to them, also that
the Mayor be authorized to offer the courts back to the shuffleboard club if it is their
desire to take over the supervision and management.
Seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried.
Application next received from Ed. F.Lane to purchase the S. 23.3 ft of Lot 7 all Lots
9 and 10 of Block 11, Chapman & Tucker's Addition, these lots having been acquired by the
City thru foreclosure of tax and special assessment liens.
Thereupon after careful consideration, the Commission authorized the Clerk to offer the
aforesaid lots for sale to Mr. Lane at a price of $1200.00
Application next received from Joe Miller for permit to sell beer and wines at
1010 W- 13th St. and same was referred to Chief of Police Williams for investigation.
The Clerk next presented the WPA project application covering the construction of a
3300 feet square all -over landing aviation field, the total cost of the project being
$115,930.00, of which the City's share is $29,089.00
'thereupon, Commissioner Higgins moved that the application be approved and the Mayor
and Clerk be authorized to execute same on behalf of the City.
Seconded by Commissioner Gut and carried.
Application next received from W.J.Ehlers to purchase the large size type "S" concrete
pipe machine, which is a part of the machinery and equipment in the City -owned McCracken
concrete pipe plant, at a price of $3,500.00
Thereupon after careful consideration, and in view of the fact that the pipe plant
building is in such a deteriorated condition that it is beyond repairing and the City
will not be in a financial position to rebuild the plant and manufacture pipe in the
near future, it was the opi4ion of the Commission that it will be to the best interest of
the City to dispose of all the machinery and equipment by selling it at a fair price,
and on motion duly adopted the Clerk was authorized to offer for sale all the machinery
and equipment to Mr Ehlers at a price of $4500.00
Request next received from Mr H J Lehman, manager of the Sanford State Farmers'
Wholesale Market that the City install a traffic signal caution light at the intersection
of French Avenue and Thirteenth Street, and same was referred to Chief of Police Williams

for advisement.
In response to recommendation of the Advisory Board of the Sanford Country Club
in connection with the request of Mrs and Mrs A C Fort for a courtesy membership
to the municipal golf course for the year 1941, letter was read from Mr J L Ingley,
Chairman of the Advisory Committee, recommending that same be granted.

Thereupon Commissioner Higgins moved that Mr and Mrs A.C.Fort be granted a courtesy
memberbhip to the Sanford Country Club for the year 1941.
Seconded by Commissioner Rollins and carried.
Communication next read from the Rose Circle of the Sanford Garden Club requesting
the City to protect all trees and native shrubs on vacant lots throughout the City
when burning the grass on lots, also protesting against allowing the utility companies
to cut large gaps in the branches of trees, and same was referred to Fire Chief Cleveland
and Supt. Moughton.
Communication next read from H.0 Moats, Attorney for Natural Gas & Appliance Company,
protesting against the amount charged for license tax, end inspection fee on installations,
for retail and wholesale dealers of liquefied petroleum gas in the City of Sanford, as
required by Ordinance No. 309.
Thereupon the Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Moats that the Commission feels
that the aforesaid license tax and inspection fee is well in line with the licenses and
fees charged for similar businesses to operate
