022840MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA,--- February 28 9:3o Al 40 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 9:30 o'clock A.M.February 28, 1940. Consideration next given to the immediate need for the purchase of a truck for the Street Department due to two of the trucks being used in connection with the ' +ti'PA water works project for replacing the water supply main. The followi r prices on second hand trucks were then submitted.: Strickland Motors Inc. 1935 Iviodel ll Ton Ford Truck $400.00 Sanford Buick Company 1936 Yodel 1 Ton Rea Truck 400.00 Reel & Sons 1936 Model 12 Ton Chevrolet Truck 270.00 Thereupon , after a com e -rison :;f the prices submitted, and upon recommendation of Supt a;oughton, Commissioner Higgins roved that the 193" oriel 12 ton Chevrolet Truck be purchased from Reel & Sons at a price of $270.00 Seconded by Commissioner Gut and carried. Communication next read from J L Lee, Attorney at Jacksonville, Florida, with refer - er.ce to John Thomas Franklin who was convicted in the MuniciT)el Court under date of February 19, 1940, for soliciting business without a license and now serving the sentence and same was referred to the City Attorney. Further consideration next ,iven to the - equest of the Seminole County Fair Association for financial assistance toward paying the labor expenses in connection with the fair held in oanford on February 12th thru 17th. Bequest refused. Mr Fred L Foster and Attorney Carl T. Pleus next appearea with further reference to the proposed escrow agreement with the Dabcock Aircraft Corporation with respect to the City deeding there; the airport property for the purpose of constructing and operating an aircraft menufrcturing plant. Thereupon after a lengthy discussion, it was the opinion of the Commission and Mr. roster that it would be to the nest advantage of both the City end the Babcock Air- craft Corporation, for the City to acquire title to twenty acres of land immediately north of the airport for this factory site, and to ol?ce the deed in escrow with an agreement that same will be delivered to said corporation upon the completion of the proposed factory providing; it is completed within two years, with certain privile -es in the use of the airport as long as this plant is used for manufacturing aircraft; instead of the original proposal and agreement of using the airport property for this plant. Final action ha.vin,- been deferred, pending further consideration of the matter by the Babcock Aircraft Corporation, and the acquiring of title to the proposed site by the City.
