The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida., met in Regular Session
at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Fi.orida, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. July 22,1940

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Minutes of Special Meeting of June 27th, adjourned meeting of July lut, regular
meeting of July 8th, and adjourned meetings of July 16th and 19th,1940 next read and
approved.
Bill of Engineer W.W.Gillespie in amount of :150.00 for preparing specifications

and supervising the installation of two water meters at the Municipal Water Plant, furnished
by the w I�5orks Projects Administration in the water supply line project, next submitted,
and on motion of Commissioner Higgins, seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried, same was
approved and payment ordered.
On motion of Commissioner Higgins, seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried the
Commission next approved the release to the Sanford Atlantic National Bank of Federal
Reserve Bank of Atlanta Safe - Keeping Receipt No.5756 covering $12,000.00 1 -112% Treasury
Notes and Safe - Keeping Receipt No 5657 covering $10,000.00 1 -310o U.S.Treasury Notes,
said U.S. Treas. Notes having been deposited in the Federal Reserve Bank to secure City
of - a.nford funds deposited in the Sanford Atlantic National Bank.
Request next received from Lyman School at Longwood for 200 yards of clay from
the City's clay pit to be used for construction of two tennis courts at said school.
Thereupon the Commission granted Lyman School permission to haul 200 yards of clay
from the pit, provided they remove an equal amount of over- burden soil at the same time.
Communication next read from Rev. W.P.Brooks Jr. Pastor of the First` Baptist Church,
requesting the City to beautify the driveway from the City limits to the Cemetery by planting
trees and shrubbery along each side of the road.
Matter taken under advisement.
Consideration next given to renewing the lease of the Municipal Athletic Field to the
Seminole County Baseball Association for a period of five years from February 1, 1940, upon
the same terms and conditions as stated in the lease that expired oil the aforesaid date.
Thereupon Commissioner Higgins moved that the City lease the Municipal Athletic
Field to the Seminole County Baseball Association for a period of five years from February
1, 1940 , contingent upon the maintenance by the Lessee of the baseball team of the National
Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, or its successor, and the use of said
said term of the pla. ing of baseball games during
Municipal Athletic Field and equipment duri�a� the baseball seasons, and that the Mayor
and Clerk be authorized to execute same on behalf of the City.
Seconded by Commissioner Rollins and carried.
The Clerk next reported that Phil King, caretaker of the zoo had been bitten by
a bear which resulted in the amputation of his thumb, and that in accordance with the
requirements of the Workmen's Compensation Act, the City is required to furnish him
hospitalization and medical treatment.

Thereupon the Clerk was authorized to handle the case in accordance with the provisions
of said Workmen's Compensation Act,.
