092640u 1 1 1 1 MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, September 26 at 7:30 P M19 40 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at the City Hall in the City of Lanford, Florida, at 7:30 o'clock P.11. Meeting called to order by the Chairman. E F gousholder, Attorney, next appeared on behalf of the Fernald - Laughton 11emorial el- 4 Hospital Associaition with further reference to the application of L ".r. Harris E. Anderson and Mr. J Charles Griffith for permit to establish a funeral home at the northwest corner of Oak Avenue and Fifth Street , and requested the Commission not to grant a permit for a funeral home at this location, which is adjacent to the hospital, stating that it would have an adverse psychological effect on the patients and lower the standards of the hospital. Doctor.C.L.Park next registered a protest on behalf of the majority of the doctors of Sanford against the establishment of a funeral home adjacent to the hospital, because of the adverse psychological effect it will have on the patients. G. A. Spe er, Attorney, representing Mir. Anderson and "r. Griffith, next requested the Commission to grant them a license to operate a funeral home at the aforesaid location, stating that they had invested their money in the property at this location with the assurance that it could be used for this purpose. Thereupon, after careful consideration, and in view of the statement of the doctors of the adverse psychological effect a funeral home adjacent to the hospital will have on the patients, and of the moral effect it will have on the hospital, Commissioner Lodge moved that the Tax Collector decline to issue P.zr. Anderson and Mr. Griffith a license to operate a funeral home at the northwest corner of Oak Avenue and Fifth Street, of which vg= bal application has been made. Seconded by Commissioner Rollins and carried. The Commission then advised Pis. Anderson & Mr. Griffith that they would be glad to consider their application for a permit to operate a funeral home at some other location outside the hospital zone. The Board next proceeded to a further study of the budget of revenues and expenditures f the fiscal year 1940 -1941, final action being deferred, pending further consideration. The meeting then adjourned until 4:00 o'clock P.M. September 30, 1940. Attest; City erk. Mayor.
