0612391 n MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, jiine 1P, at 77—M 19 39 The City Commission of the City of 6anford, Florida_, met in regular session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7 :30 o'clock P.M. June 12, 1939• Present: Commissioner Edward Higgins, Mayor. " Walter S. Coleman " H. James Gut. " M. J Lodge " G.E.Rollins City Attorney Fred R. Wilson City Clerk H. N Sayer Chief of Police R.G.11,illiams Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Current invoices and payrolls for the month of May 1939, properly audited and vouchered as evidenced by vouchers Nos 1040 thru 1132, submitted, examined approved and payment ordered. Monthly reports of the streets, sanitation, health, water, police, fire and library departments for the month of May 1939, submitted and examined. Bank statements in all accounts for the month of May 1939 properly reconciled, submitte and examined. Financial statement and statement of revenues and expenditures during the month of May 1939, submitted and examined. Communication next read from St. Johns River Improvement Association advising of the need of $2,200.00 to defray the expenses of a delegation to Washington, D.C. to attend Indian River the hearing on June 26th. on the proposed St. Johns River /Canal, and requested the Commission to appropri;atb $200.00 towards this expense. Thereupon, after considerable discussion and in view of the benefits to accrue to the City upon the construction of the proposed St. Johns Indian River Canal, Commissioner Coleman moved that $200.00 be donated toward defraying the expenses of a delegation to 'r�asnington D.C. to attend the hearing on June 26, 1939. Seconded by Commissioner Gut and carried. Telegram next read from Barcus, Kindred & Company, Chicago, submitting quotation on Sanford's Refunding Series "A" Bonds with coupons due Sept 1, 1939 and subsequent attached, at a price of $260.00 per bond and accrued interest. Thereupon, Commissioner Rollins moved that the Clerk be authorized to purchase from Ba.ro s, Kindred & Company 10 Refunding Series "A" Bonds at a price of $6260.00 per bond and accrued interest. Seconded by Commissioner Coleman and carried. The Clerk next reported of the emergency existing with respect to the condition of the wood pipe which carries the water from the wells to the water pumping station and that only 184 feet of red wood pipe is in stock for making repairs. Thereupon Commissioner Gut moved that the Clerk be authorized to purchase 200 feet, in varying lengths, of 16 inch red wood stave pipe, from the Pacific Tank & Pipe Company similar to that now in use and heretofore purchased from this Company. 1 1 C 1 MINUTES fit CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, June 12, 7:30 P M 19 39 Seconded by Commissioner Rollins and carried. On motion duly carried, The Commission next approved the sale to J TN Flynt Jr. of Lot 7 Block 3 Bel Air Subdivision at a price of $100.00 , and the sale to H D Longwell of lots 5 and 6 Block 3, Bel Air Subdivision at a price of $100.00 each, these lots having been acquired b-, the City through foreclosure of City taxes and street paving liens. Commissioner Gut next retorted that due to lack of funds the Research Committee of the Seminole Agricultural Club was unable to complete the report of the investigation of underground water supply in and around Sanford made by S.A. Stubbs, Geologist, in 1937, and financed by the City, County and private sources, and that he had employed some one to copy this report at a cost of $85.00 Thereupon, in view of the vital need for definite information as to our underground water supply, Commissioner Lode moved that $55.00 be donated toward the expense of securing copies of the aforesaid report. Seconded by Commissioner Coleman and carried. Recreational Director R/M Hardaker next reported that the Seminole County School Board had granted the City Recreational Department the use and supervision during the summer months of the tennis courts at the Seminole High School and the junior High School, and that the back stops on these courts are in need of repairs which will cost $24.00. Thereupon, on motion duly carried, the Commission authorized an expenditure of $24.00 for the aforesaid repairs. Request next received from Geo. A.DeCottes, agent, to be allowed to pay delinquent taxes for the years 1930 thru 1934 amounting to $130.83 under the adjusted basis, amounting to $28.64 against lots 6,7 and 8 Block 16 Pine Level.
