CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, September 18, 1936 at 19
The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the
City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 O'clock P.M. September 16th. 1936.
Present: Commissioner , S 0 Shinholser, Mayor.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
The first order of business being a further consideration of the budget for the
fiscal year 1936 -1937, the Commission then proceeded to a study of the tentative figures
as prepared by the City Clerk, revising and adjusting wherever considered advisable, final
action being deferred until a later meeting.
The Commission neat resolved itself into an Equalization Board to act upon com-

plaints heretofore registered as to assessed valuations for the year 1936, action having
been deferred for further consideration, as well as any other business which may come before it
as an Equalization Board, as follows:

The Board neat checked assessed valuations of lake front property adjoining
the newly constructed State Road No. 3, ( Seminole Boulevard) the following adjustments

The Board then designated the meeting of September 26th, 1936, as the final
meeting when it would sit as a Tax Equalization Board for the year 1936, after which
It adjourned as an Equalization Board and immediately re- convened to consider any other
business which may come before it.
Thereupon consideration was given to the advisability of moving the police department
from its present quarters in the rear of the fire station.to its former location at the City
Jail, it appearing that such a move could be made without increased cost to the City and
would tend towards greater efficiency Of that department.

Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved that the Police Department be moved from.
its present quarters in the rear of the fire station, to the City Jail, effective October
1st, 1936; that from that date the City prisoners be housed in the City Jail instead of
,the County Jail as heretofore ; and that A.R.Marshall, special sanitary officer, be trans-
ferred to the Police Department as Desk Officer, a position held by him for several
years prior to the closing of the City Jail.
Seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried.
The Clerk was then instructed to direct a communication to the Board of County
Commissioners expressing the appreciation of the City Commission for their cooperati=
in housing the City prisoners during the past several years.
Request next received from J.F. Cowan to be allowed to pay the 1934 and 1935 taxes
against Lot 10 Block 4 Tier 4 without requiring the payment of the prior taxes at the same
time, it being his intention to apply to the Municipal Delinquent Tax Adjustment Board
for adjustment of the prior years' taxes at a later date.
Request approved.
Request next received from L.F.Boyle as Commander of the American Legion Post
for assistance in preparing a lawn around the American Legion.Hut on Seminole Boulevard,
and same was referred to Supt. Moughton to render such assistance as possible.
The meeting then adjourned until 7:30 o'Clock P.M. September 21, 1936.
