The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Regular Session
at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 O'Clock P.M. January 11, 1937.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Current invoices end payrolls for-the month of December , 1936, properly
audited and vouchered as evidenced by vouchers Nos. 5401 through 5456 submitted,
examined, approved and payment ordered.
Monthly report of the Streets, sanitation, health, water, police fire and
library departments for the month of December 1936, submitted and examined.
Bank statements in all accounts for the month of December , 1936 properly re-
conciled, submitted and examined.
Financial statement and statement of revenues and expenditures during the month
of December, 1936, submitted and examined.
Minutes of regular meeting of January 5th, adjourned meeting of January 6th, and
adjourned meeting of January 7th, 1937, read and approved.
Mr. A.R. Johnson , representing the Seminole Chapter , Future Farmers of America,
next requested a donation towards the expenses of the Seminole County Exhibit at the
Tampa Fair, advising that the County had contributed $25.00 for that purpose.
Thereupon, Commissioner Dupree moved that the City contribute $25.00 towards
the cost of the Seminole County Exhibit at the Tampa Fair.
Seconded by Commissioner 11itehurst and carried.
Consideration next give to the efforts of the D.A.R. to obtain from Mr. John
Sanford, as a part of the Centennial Celebration to be held on February 5th, a library
building to be located in Sanford to be used as a depository for the rare colldction
of books, newspapers, manuscripts, paintings, sculpture and other works of art now housed
in the library of the old Sanford homestead in Derby, it being the desire to have this
library presented to the City as a memorial to General H.S.Sanford after whom the City
was named.
Thereupon the Mayor was authorized to address proper communication to Mr. Sanford
urging that such a library be presented to the City of Sanford as outlined.
Communication next presented from H.M.Watson offering to bid sufficient at the
foreclosure sale of County Tax certificate owned by Charles Dunn, covering Lots 1 to
11 and 15 to 19 of Block 1 Marvania, First Se ction to realize for the City $500.00 for its
liens,it being understood that the City will not interfere at such sale.
Offer declined.
Communication next presented from the Umatilla Fruit Co. offering to purchase
from the City ten acre tract adjacent to the Golf Course on which is located orange
grove now leased by this Company from the City, for a price of $3000.00
Matter taken under consideration.

Communication next read from the Civic Department of the Woman's Club, urging
that every effort be made to obtain better and increased hospital facilities for the
City of Sanford,,, =a.nd same was ordered acknowledged with advice as to past efforts
and efforts now being made to obtain this much desired result.
Communication next read from J.G.Leonardy applying for the position of Municipal
Judge and same was ordered filed.
Communication next read from R.A.Cobb resigning as a. member of the Board of Bond
Trustees and same was accepted.
The Clerk next read communication from Wendall C. Heaton, Chairman of the Florida
Industrial Commission, advising that Resolution No. 497, passed by the Commission under
date of December 25, 1936, was sufficient to qualify the City as a self- insurer under the
provisions `of' the Florida., Workmen's Compensation Act.
Consideration next given to the need for a regular patrolman in the Sanford Avenue
business district, this work being at present handled by a. watchman, paid partly by the
City and partly through donations from the merchants.
Thereupon Commissioner Dupree moved that the Chief of Police be authorized to
employ J.B.Quattlebaum as a regular patrolman at a salary of $1040.00 per annum, effective
January 16, 1937, to patrol the Sanford Avenue business district and such other duties
as the Chief may deem advisable.
Communication next read from G.H.Brown for appointment as Sanitary Inspector and
same was taken under consideration.
The Clerk was next instructed to contact Mrs. Moughton , Librarian, with a view
to changing the hours so as to keep the library open on week days from 10 A.M. to 1 . P M.
and from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. and on Saturdays tintil 9 P.M..
The meeting then adjourned until 7:30 o'clock P.M. January 14th, 1937, after
which the Board immediately re- c-,,nvened as a Municipal Delinquent Tax Adjustment Board.
Thereupon the following adjustements of taxes for the year 1933 and prior, and
special assessments were authorized and approved:
