The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session:
at thO City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7 :30 O'clock P.M. January 18,1937.
Present: Commissioner Edward Higgins, Mayor.

Absent: Commissioner W.A. Leffler.
Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Mr. Ed Biggers appeared with reference to a. reputed shortage of milk needed
for the Seminole County Fair to be held the week of January 25, and requested that the provilsions
of the Milk Ordinance be temporarily waived in order to ship sufficient milk from Orlando
to take up this shortage.
Request,-denied.
A Committee of Shuffleboard enthusiasts, composed principally of tourists next
presented the ne.ed for two additional shuffleboard courts on the north east corner of
Second St. and Palmetto Ave., and requested that these courts be installed in order to
properly handle tournament play.
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved that these courts be installed at an
estimated cost of not to exceed $150.00
Seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried.
Consideration next given to recommendation of District Sanitary Officer Holloway
of the State Board of Health that a Sanitary Toilet Ordinance be passed to conform.
to the State Law.
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst introduced Ordinance No. 253 entitled:
AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO KEEP OR MAINTAIN WITHIN THE C ORP ORATE LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, ANY SURFACE CLOSET OR PRIVY USED FOR THE DEPOSIT
OF HUMAN EXCRETA,WHICH CLOSET IS NOT FLYTPROIDF IN CONSTRUCTION AND IS NOT IN
CONFORMITY WITH PLANS RECOMMENDED OR APPROVED BY THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH
OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION HEREOF.
AND MOVED THAT IT BE PLACED ON ITS FIRST READING.
Seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried.
Thereupon-Ordinance No. 253 was placed on its first reading and read in full by
the Clerk.
Consideration next given to offer of Umatilla Fruit Co. to purchase ten acre
orange grove adjacent to the Golf Course, the Clerk reporting that the original offer
Of X3,000.00 had been changed to $3500.00 subject to immediate acceptance.
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved that the offer of the Umatilla Fruit
Company to buy the aforesaid orange grove at a price of $3500.00 be accepted, subject
to approval of Commissioner Leffler, said property being described as follows:
Beginning 20 chains west and 40 chains south of the northeast corner of
Section 4 township 20 south , range 30 east. Seminole County, Florida;
thence run south 10 chains , thence west 10 chains; thence north 10 chains;
thence east 10 chains to point of beginning. Containing 10 acres.
Seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried. ,
Further consideration next given to the water plant problems, Mr James Gut
being present and outlining the various sections where the best water can be obtained.
