The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at
the City Hall in Sanford, Florida, at 8 O'Clock P.M. August 26, 1931.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
The first order of business was to hear and consider any complaints as to assessed
valuations for the year 1931.
Mr. A.B.Lovejoy, representing the I.O.O.F. requested exemption from taxation of
property in Block 19, Chapman & Tucker's Addition, owned by this Organization: but not being
used by it for fraternal purposes, and same was referred to City Attorney Wilson for report
as to the law in this matter.
The Commission next proceeded to place the personal property tax assessment against
the Sanford Gas Company for the year 1931 at $100,000,00 , and representatives of the
Company, being present, were notified to that effect.
The Commission next placed the personal property tag assessment against the
Souther Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for the year 1931 at $100,000.00, and the
Clerk was instructed to so notify this Company.
On motion unanimously adopted, the 1931 assessed valuation of the property of the
Florida Power & Light Company located at W. First St. and the amin line of The Atlantic
Coast Line R.R. Co. and upon which was formerly located its ice plant, was placed at
$73,915.00, Commissioner Byrd not voting on this motion.
The Clerk next submitted the following objections as to 1931 assessed valuations, file
for presentation at this meeting; and same were taken under consideration:

There being no further objections, the Commission adjourned as an Equalization Board
and re- convened for the purpose of transacting any other business that may come before it.
Communication dated August 18th., from special Counsel DeCottes and Boggs concerning
request for retainer fee of 02000x00 in the Chase National Bank suit, was next read and
ordered filed..
The Clerk next presented bids for painting the water tank at the City pumping station,

Thereupon upon motion adopted, contract was let to the lowest bidder J.S.Jenkins.
The Clerk next presented prices received for aluminum paint to be used in painting
the water tower, and on motion duly adopted, the order was awarded the Sanford Paint &
Wall Paper Company at a price of $2.80 per gallon.
Annual report of Mrs. Elsa Knight, Librarian of the Sanford Municipal Library was
next read and ordered filed.
Commissioner Lehman next moved that an assistant for Mrs. Knight, the Librarian be
employed during the month of September at a salary of $50.00, and that Mrs. Knight be
allowed a vacation of two weeks during this time.
Seconded by Commissioner Byrd and carried.
On motion duly adopted, the Clerk was next ordered to accept $45.00 as the annual
license tax of the Barker Poster Advertising Company, for the year 1930 -1931.

On motion duly adopted, the City Attorney was next instructed to prepare Ordinances
placing the license to be charged slot machines at $75.00 each per year, and placing the
license of any establishment operating punch boards at $20.00 per year, this lat-'Ver
license to be in addition to any other license which may be paid.
The matter of assistance to be given towards the maintenance of the Sanford Golf
Course was next brought up for further consideration, and after considerable discussion,
instructions were issued, that the City furnish Charity labor to clean up the greens,

that the City pay for water to be used on the greens during this work up to $100.00, and that
the City furnish fertilizer for .use on the course at a cost of $570.00
The meeting then adjourned to meet again at 9 O'Clock P.M. August 31, 1931.
