Thereupon the Clerk presented communication from the M. F. Robinson Estate, protesting against the valuations on the 1927 tax roll of Lot 12 Elk 3 Tier 2, and Lot 1 Block 6, Chapman & Tucker's Addition. After a careful comparison of these valuations with xatnalinan assessments of property of like value on the 1927 tax roll, the request for reductions on this property was refused. Request next received from R. E. Herndon, representing the estate of Mrs. Jennie E.Stuman, for a reduction in the assessed value of Lot 1 and the North 12 feet of Lot 2 Blk 6 Tier 1, for the year 1927. Commissioner Speer moved that the 1927 assessed value of t1i s property be reduced to *$10,000.00, but the motion failed for rack of a second and the value as g1wen on the 1927 tax roll was allowed to stand. Request next received from W. J. Thigpen for reduction in the 1928 assessed value of Lot 6 and the North 6.6 ft. of Lot 7 Blk 10 Tier 3, after but /a comparison of values on the 1928 tax roll of property of like value, and no inequality in this assessment being discovered, the request was re- fused. 5► w presented to the Commission There being no further complaints or objettione /as to assessed values of real property one the 1927, 1928` and 1929 tax rolls on which the taxes of those years have not been paid, Commissioner Leffler moved that the valuations as given on these tax rolls for the years 1927, 1928 and 1929 be approved, and that the City Commission, sitting as an EqualizationBoard, having heard all complaints presented, adj ournsd, to red©nvene tao tremnank again in adjourned regular session for the purpose of transacting such other business as may come before it. Seconded by Commissioner Newman and oa;ried. Bids next received from the Sanford MaoMme Company and the Hill Hardware Compary, for one wagon and two sets of harness, for the street department, but as the bids were on different grade equipment, both were rejected and new bids ordered obtained on like quality and qxax specifica- tions. Bill next presented by City Attotey Nilson covering balance due on account of fee and expenses in connection with foreclosure of liens against the Forrest Lake Hotel, amounting to $1502.75. 'Commissioner Newman moved that the bill be paid. Seconded by Commissio er Speer and carried by the following vote: Commissioner Lehman Xye " Leffler Aye " Newman Aye " Speer Aye Application next received from the General Outdoor Advertising Co., Inc. to erect all -metal advertising sign board at the SouthEast corner of First Street and Mangoustine Avenue, said structure to comply with all requirements of ordinances governing the erection of advertising sign boards. Commissioner Speer moved that the permit requested be granted. Seconded by Commissioner Newman and carried. The meeting then adjourned. -2- Communication next read from the Saaford Atlantic National Bank requesting to be designated as a depository for City of° Sanford funds during the year 1931. ;wi x Commissioner Leffler moved that the Sanford Atlantic National Bank be designated as a depository of City of Sanford funds. Commissicners Leffler and Speer andCity Attorney Wilson recommending that no action be taken upon the complaint of I. B. Davis against Police Officer Schaffer. The Clerk ru xt presented requests from five insurance agente,two of which were accompanied by binders, to insure the-Forrest Lake Hotel, which was recently acquired by the City through foreclosure on Street PaIng liens. Thereupon Commissioner Leffler moved that the City place $50,000.00 in fire insurance on the Forrest Lake Hotel, and that this business be divided equally among those agents applying, towit: A. P. Connelly & Sons H. C. DuBose Walter L. Cooper Agency. J. H. Colclough W. J. Thigpen & Co. Seconded by Commissioner Sneer and carries?_. 2nmmimsibm Communication next read from the Sanford Chamber of Commerce, action by its President and Secretary, advising the Commission of the aninzoetnnanf hir of the Chamber of Commerce in recommending the appointment of one of the newly elected Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of office of Commissioner Frank L. Miller, resigned. Commissioner Speer then moved that Mr. Frank L. Woodruff be appointed to fill the unexpired term of office of Commissioner Frank L. Miller, resigned.
