The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in regular
session at the City Hall in Sanford, Florida, at S O'Clock P.M. May 13, 1935•

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Minutes of regular meeting of April 22 , 1935 read and ap )roved.
Current invoices and payrolls for the month of April 1935, Properly
audited and vouchered as evidenced by vouchers Nos. 6884 through 6960 submitted
examined, approved and payment ordered.
Monthly reports of the streets, sanitation, health, water , police,
fire and library departments for the month of April 1935, submitted and examined.
�r Financial statement and statement of revenues and expenditures during
the month of April 1935, submitted and examined.
Bank statements in all accounts, properly reconciled, submitted and examined.
Application next received from the Sun Oil Company for permit to construct
gas and oil service station on Lots 1 and 2 of Block ; Tier 4, located at the
5.17.Corner of Park Ave. and Third Street in accordance with plans and specifications
furnished.
Thereupon, after agreement of the representative of the Sun Oil Co. to
set the curb line back to conform to the proposed widening of Park Avenue,
Commissioner Speer moved that the permit be granted.
Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried.
11r. Fred T.7illiams and 111r. E.B.Randall Jr. next presented a request that
they be pe imitted to pay their taxes with City of "anford bonds which had been
given them by the City in payment for services rendered.
Matter taken under advisement.
Permission next granted to Mr. H H Coleman, Local manager of the Florida
Power L. Light Co. to submit revised plan for utilizing electricity exclusively
for pumping water at the water pumping station, with the understanding that there
will be no obligation on the part of the City to either accept or seriously consider
the proposed plan.
Request next received from Mr. T.K.Apgar and Mr. YT.W.Goetsch, officials
of the Seminole County FERA unit, for assistance in the administrative costs of
the FERA during the month of May, stating that their allotment had been curtailed
to such an extent that $200.00 would be needed to keep the organization together.
Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that the request be granted and that
$200.00 be appropriated for this purpose.
Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried.

Request next received from the Star Line, a transporation company , to
lease from the City the old Suwannee Steamship Dock located at the foot of Myrtle
Avenue.
Matter referred to City Attorney and City Clerk to check into the status
of this dock and report at the next meeting.
Petition next received from gas and oil dealers protesting against the
passing of any ordinance which would prohibit commercial vehicles or any other
automobile traffic from using Park Avenue.
Referred to Committee appointed at the meeting of April 22nd. to in-
vestigate this matter.
Communication next read from the Sanford Garden Club requesting that funds
be made available for use by this Club in carrying out such beautification plans
as may be acceptable to the Club and the City.
Request refused due to insufficiency of funds for this purpose.
The Clerk next reported receipt from the Umatilla Fruit Co. of $125.00
same being payment in accordance with lease for the golf course orange grove
for the year ending May lst. 1936, and on motion of Commissioner Speer,
seconded by Commissioner Leffler and carried, same was ordered credited to
the appropriation for the operation of the municipal golf course.
On motion duly carried, the Commission next approved issuance of permits
to J D. Davidston to demolish and remove three houses located on Lots 3 and
Block 14 Tier 4, to G X.Spencer to demolish and remove house located on Lot 5
Block l) -i- Tier 4, and to W.L.Cooper to demolish and remove four houses located
on Lots 22, 44 , 46 and 48 of Gardenia Subdivision.
Communication next read from W.E.Kirchoff, Jr., Lessee of the Mayfair
Hotel, requesting permission to close the hotel until December lst, 1935, but in
view of the fact that since. writing this communication Mr Kirchoffts plans had
been altered and the hotel eras remaining open, no action was considered necessary.
Another communication next read from Mr. Kircho-f advising that demand
has been made upon him by Augustus T.Ashton, who novr claims ownership of the
Mayfair Hotel for payment of prorata part of premium on $30,000.00 fire insurance
taken out by Mr. Ashton on the Hotel, for the period from October 1, 1935 to
April 1, 1936, and requesting that in view of the fact that under his agreement
with the City, no insurance would be payable by him until October 1, 19352
that t -his payment be assumed by the City, Mr Kirchoff to reimburse the City
for the amount paid, on that date
Thereupon, the Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Kirchoff that under
the terms of his lease and agreement with the City, he is not required to pay
any insurance premiums on the Mayfair Hotel property before October 1, 1935•
Request next received from Mrs. A.B.Henderson that the $75.00 balance
of the fine assessed against D.R.Johnson in the Municipal Court under date
of December 10, 1934, for driving an automobile while under the influence of
intoxicating liquor, be suspended.
Request refused.
On motion duly carried the Commission next suspended $50.00 of the $100.)0
fine assessed against Lawyer Crooms in the Municipal Court under date of April 22nd.

1935, for parking a motor vehicle without lights, upon payment of the balance.
On motion-duly carried, the Commission next approved suspension of $6.15
of the fine of Julian Baker, sentenced in the Municipal Court under date of
parch 25, 1935, to a fine of $25.00 or serve 60 days in jail, for being drunk and
disorderly, 15 days having been served and the balance of the fine amounting
to yp18.85 having been paid.
On motion of Commissioner Speer, seconded by Commissioner Lehman and
carried, the Commission next ordered the release on May 15th on good behavior,
and in order to provide for his family, of Joe Gracy, sentenced in the Municipal
Court under date of April 29, 1935 to serve the unexpired portion of sentence
levied on April 102 1933, for driving an automobile while under the influence of
intoxicating liquor.
Request next received from J.C.Roberts for permit to remove camphor
tree from the parkway in front of his horde at Eighth St. and Elm Ave. and on motion
duly carried, same was approved.
Consideration was next given to the application of W.F.Graves for license
to sell intoxicating liquor in the City of Sanford but in view of the fact that
the applicant had been convicted in the Municipal Court for violation of the
liquor ordinances, application was rejected.
Chief of Police Willimas next reported that an employee of Robert Burns,
412 Sanford Avenue had been convicted in the Municipal Court for selling
intoxicating liquor without a license.
Thereupon the license of Burns to sell beer was ordered revoked in
accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No 216.
Commissioner Lehman next moved that for purpae s of clearing the records
that tax certificate No. 62 covering 1909 City of Sanford taxes against Lot 4
Blo_I ll Tier 6, be canceled, it appearing that all other taxes against this
property have been paid to date and considerable doubt exists as to whether this
certificate has not also been paid.
Seconed by Commissioner Speer and carried.
Offer next received from C.L.Vincent to rent City owned PDS dock for
one year at the rate of 415.00 per year.
Offer refused.
Request next received from United Lumber Co. to lease from the City a
portion of the tract of land bordering Lake Ada, to be used as a saw mill site.
Request refused in view of the fact that the water in this lake is
an emergency water supply for the City of Sanford.
Request next received from 17.E.Watson for permit to haul clay from the
City clay pits to repair road leading to his orange grove near Paola
In view of the fact that this road is a County road, permit granted to the
County to obtain the necessary clay from the City clay pits.
Applications next received to remove three houses from Lot 11 Fla. Land
& Colo. Co. Addition to South Sanford, Lot 8 Longs Second Addition, and lots
5 and 6 Blk 10 Tr. 14, respectively, and on motion duly adopted, permits
ordered granted.
