010835737i`6 MINUTES CITY- COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, January 9 at 7 :30 P M -19 35 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in Regular Annual Session at the City Hall in Sanford, Florida, at 7 :30 O'Clock P.M. January 8, 1935. Present: Commissioner W.A.Leffler, Mayor. T.L.Dumas If H.J.Lehman 11 V.A.Speer " S.O.Shinholser City Attorney Fred R.Wilson City Clerk F S Lamson Chief of Police R.G.Williams Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Minutes of adjourned meeting of January 2nd. and adjourned meeting of January 3rd. 1935 read and approved. Mr. W.A.Fitts next appeared requesting further reduction in the fine of J.B.Ferell, sentenced in the Municipal Court under date of December 31, 1934, to a total of $215.00 or to serve in lieu thereof 130 days in jail, on charges of drunkenness driving a car drunk, and breaking glass in the streets, but in view of the seriousness of the cases, no further reduction than that approved at the meeting of January 2nd. 1935 was allowed. Communication next read from the Sanford Machine Co. advising that due to a 5 percent increase in manufacturers prices between the time of giving quotation on pipe and fittings and its acceptance by the Commission under date of January 3rd., their bid would have to be cancelled unless the 5 percent increase could be passed on to the City. Thereupon, in view of the fact that the 5 percent increase places the bid of the Sanford Machine Co. at $1801.58 , the low bid of Lee Brothers totalling $1785.62 was ordered accepted. There being no further business, on motion of Commissioner Lehman, seconded by Commissioner Dumas and carried, the meeting adjourned sine die. The Commission then re- convened for purposes of organization, Commissioner Leffler signing the oath of office for a three year term. The.first matter of business being the election of a Mayor. Commissioner Speer offered the name of Commissioner Leffler and moved his re- election for the ensuing year. Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and unanimously carried. At this point Commissioner Leffler thanked the Cor�unission for the honor but stated that for business reasons it would be impossible for him to serve another term as May or. Thereupon Commissioner Lehman offered the name of Commissioner Dumas and moved that he be elected Mayor for the year 1935- Seconded by Commissioner Shinholser. Thereupon the roll was called upon the election of Commissioner Dunces as May or of the City of Sanford for the year 1935, all voting Aye. Thereupon Commissioner Dumas signed the oath of office as Mayor of the City of Sanford, Florida and took the Chair. At this time, Commissioner Leffler made a statement, which he requested be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, expressing his thanks and gratitude to the regular paid employees of the City for their splendid cooperation during his term as Mayor, and stating that what little accomplishments may have been his during this year were mainly due to the work of these employees. Thereupon the Clerk was instructed to notify the employees in the various depart- ments of Commissioner Leffler's appreciation for their cooperation during his tenure of office as Mayor. Request next received from the Chamber of Commerce that a committee of three be appointed to cooperate with a Committee from Rollins College having charge of a program to be staged on April 28th. commerating the Fiftieth anniversary of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of Rollins College in the Lyman Bank in Sanford. Thereupon Commissioner Lehman moved that the Mayor appoint such committee. Seconded by Commissioner Shinholser and carried. In accordance with recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce the Mayor then appointed Mrs H.J.Lehman, representing the D.A.R., Karl Lehmann, Secretary of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, and himself, to serve on this Committee.
