082635422 MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, August 26 $t 7:30 195_ The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in regular session.at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 O'Clock P.M.August 26, 1935• Present: Commissioner T.L.Dumas, Mayor " W.A.Leffler " H.J.Lehman " S. O. Shinholser " V A Speer City Attorney Fred R Wilson, City Clerk F.S.Lamson, Chief of Police R.G. Williams Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Minutes of regular meeting of August 12, 1935, read and approved. Engineer Fred T.Williams next suggested the advisability of replacing the old water services on First Street and Park Avenue at the time the paving on these streets is relaid. Thereupon Commissioner Leffler moved that the City renew the water services on First Street and Park Avenue wherever necessary at the time the paving on these streets is relaid. Seconded by Commissioner Speer and carried. The Clerk was then instructed to notify the Gas Company of Lthis action and to suggest that gas services be renewed at the same time to prevent the necessity of tearing up these streets to repair leaks. Also to notify the Telephone Company with a. view to the possible replacing of overhead wires with underground cables. Engineer Williams next reported on the petition presented at the meeting of August 12th., that Pump Branch be filled in, advising the Commission that such project which would include the laying of a storm sewer would cost approximately $79,000.00, and even if the City were.able to obtain a PWA project for this work, such a project would be limited to $25,000.00 which would fall far short of the amount necessary. Thereupon, Commissioner Speer moved that those who presented the petition be noti- fied of the report of the Engineer. Seconded by Commissioner Shinholser and carried. Communication next read from Mrs Magdalen V.Saunders, Director of Social Service for the Seminole County Emergency Relief Administration requesting that a further donation of water be made to the FERA Nursery School, it appearing that the $10.00'heretofore authorized by the Commission.has been used. Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that an additional $20.00 worth of water be donated to the FERA Nursery School. Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried. Report of the Seminole County Welfare Board for the month of July 1935, next presented, together with request that the customary appropriation of $50.00 for welfare work be made for the month of August. Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that $50.00 be appropriated to the Seminole County Welfare Board for welfare work during the month of August 1935• Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried. Consideration next given to two resolutions prepared by the Florida Power & Light Company covering the discontinuance of three overhead lights on best First Street, now outside the City Limits, and the re- connection of one overhead light at the intersection of Commercial St. and Laurel Ave., and two lights on the whiV-way circuit, one at the northeast corner of First St. and Maple Ave. and the other at:_ the Municipal Zoo. Thereupon, the Clerk was instructed to notify the Florida Power & Light Company that the City is willing tomake formal request for these changes but does not feel it necessary to pass a resolution everytime a light is changed. A WPA Project covering the construction of a State Armory Building for use by the local units of the National Guard was next presented, the total estimated cost being $29,715.60, and on motion of Commissioner Speer, seconded by Commissioner Shinholser and carried, same was approved. Supt. Moughton and WPA Engineer Earl were next instructed to prepare for con- sideration a WPA project covering the beautification and construction of sidewalks in the Municipal Cemetery, after which the meeting adjourned. ..r r Mayor.
