City Commission Conference Room City Hall, Sanford, Florida Members Present: Monte Olinger, Vice Chairman Kay Bartholomew Altermese Bentley Cal Conklin John Mercer Jerry Mills H.L. Cranias Others in Attendance: Penny Turner, Secretary The meeting was called to order by the Vice Chairman, Monte Olinger at 4:30 P.M. Cal Conklin moved to approve the Minutes of May 7, 1992. Seconded by Alteremese Bentley and carried by unanimous vote. Mrs. Turner updated the Board on the Georgetown/ Goldsboro Community Survey. Brenda Elliott was unable to submit the nomination for the Georgetown area to the National Register of Historic Places by the end of May as planned. Mrs. Turner stated that Mr. Welch requested the Board consider purchasing a copy of the Master Site Files for the Georgetown and Goldsboro areas from the Orange County Historical Museum to assist in the preparation of the report. The cost of the documents is $200. Cal Conklin moved to approve the purchase of the Master Site Files for the Georgetown and Goldsboro areas from the Orange County Historical Museum for $200. Seconded by Kay Bartholomew and carried by unanimous vote. It was requested that Mrs. Turner contact Brenda Elliott to attend the meeting of July 9, 1992 and request a written status report on the Georgetown /Goldsboro Community Survey. HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MEETING, con't. Page 2 Mrs. Straehla updated the Board on the Andres Duany Project. The Sanford Historic Trust Committee has reviewed the Master Plan and Urban Regulations. She informed the Board of the proposed changes regarding Code Enforcement. The Board concurred that the Code Enforcement Board is responsible for enforcement and the Historic Preservation Board will assist to identify, monitor and coordinate to ensure continuity of the code in the Residential Historic District. Discussion was held regarding the time involved in monitoring new construction and alterations to buildings in the Residential Historic District. It was suggested the time required of the Board be monitored to determine if in the future an additional board would be needed. Mrs. Turner requested the Board review the proposed Goals for the Historic Preservation Board provided by Mr. Welch for discussion at the July meeting. Mrs. Turner informed the Board that Smith - Cornell, Inc. would ship the plaque for Hopper Academy on Monday, June 22, 1992. Discussion was held regarding code violations in the downtown district. It was requested that the Chairman write a letter to the owner of the Welaka Building requesting the boards on the First Street windows be removed before the meeting of July 9, 1992. At that time the board will refer it to the Code Enforcement if the boards have not been removed. As there was no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 5:27 P.M.
