CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, July 22, at 7: 30 P M A 9__a
The City Commission of the City, of Sanford, Florida, met in Regular Sessiom
at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 O'Clook P.M. July 22, 1935•

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Mr. A.P.Connelly reported on a conference with Mr. Walter Hawkins, State
Director for the National Emergency Council, in which the possibility developed of obtaining
an outright grant of $25,000.00 for repairs and alterations to the Fernald- Laughton Memorial
Hospital.
Thereupon Mr. Connelly was requested to have the Hospital Board prepare a
definite plan for the use of this money with a view to exerting every effort possible to have
such a project approved.
Communication next read from T.B.018teen, Traffic Manager, Florida Motor
Lines, Inc., advising that plans were being made to provide station facilities on private
property but as such facilities would not be ready by August let, requesting an extension of
time beyond that date.
Communication also read from H.B.Pope advising that plans were being
prepared for the Florida Motor Lines to occupy a portion of his property at the corner of
Second Street and Park Avenue, but that it would be impossible for him to have the plans
completed and the building constructed by August let.
Thereupon Commissioner Lehman moved that the time for the Florida Motor
Line Inc. , to provide station facilities on private property be extended to August 15, 1935•
Seconded by Commissioner Speer and carried.
The Commission neat proceeded to consider bids received for supplying new
automobile coach for use by the Police Department, as follows:

After comparison of the prices and specifications of the various
makes of automobile bid upon, the vote was taken on each, as follows:

Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that the order be placed in accordance
with the foregoing vote.
Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried.
Thereupon the order was awarded to Strickland Motors Inc. , for :.one 1935
Ford Standard Tudor Sedan as specified in,the bid, at a price of $646.07, less allowanoe
of $125.00 on 1930 Chevrolet Coach.
Minutes of Regular Meeting of July Oth and adjourned meeting of July 12th. 1935
neat read and approved.
Bill neat presented covering dues of the Florida League of Municipalities for
the year ending June 30, 1936, in amount of $70.00 , and on motion of Commissioner
Lehman, seconded by Commissioner Shinholser and carried, same was ordered paid.
Communication neat read from Geo.E.Balmes, Treasurer of The Seminole County
Agricultural Association requesting financial assistance in the campaign being conducted
to obtain a complete and comprehensive survey of the underground waters of Florida
before the proposed oross -state sea level canal is constructed, and advising that the
County Commissioners had appropriated $300.00 for this purpose.
Thereupon the Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Balmes that the City is already
represented in the contribution made by the County and any further contribution: is
impossible due to the condition of the finances.
The Clerk next reported that the $100.00 appropriated for the purpose of supply-
ing meals and beds through the Salvation Army for indigent transients had been expended
and that orders for an additional $6.55 had been issued and presented for payment.
Thereupon Commissioner Shinholser moved that $6.55 be appropriated to pay these
outstanding orders.
Seconded by Commissioner Leffler and carried.
Request next presented from the Seminole County Welfare Board for an appropriation
for welfare work during the month of July 1935•
Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that the usual contribution of $50.00 be
made to the Seminole County Welfare Board for welfare work during the month of July, 1935•
Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried.
Communication next read from Dr. A.P.Black, consulting chemist, inclosing report
of his investigation into the Sanford water supply, and same was taken under consideration..
Communication next read from the Secretary of the Florida League of Municipalities
advising that the joint committee on uniform municipal government named under terms
of Senate Concurrent Resolution 16, to work out and recommend to the 1937 session of
the Legislature, model charters for the cities and towns of Florida, would hold its
first meeting in Jacksonville on August let, and 2nd., and urging that Sanford be represented
at this meeting.
Thereupon the City Attorney and City Clerk, together with such. Commissioners
as are able to do so,were authorized to attend this meeting.
Communication next read from A.P.Connelly & Sons, advising that under_ the
regardless of whether or not they are covered
terms of the new Workmen's Compensation Policy, all City Amployees are oove by the
Florida Workmen's Compensation Act passed by the 1935 Legislature.
Request neat received from S.O.Bhinholser for permit to wreck and remove old
galvanized iron warehouse on Lot 9 Block 1 Tier 10, and on motion duly carried, permit

ordered granted.
Complaint neat received as to the condition of the house located at the
S.W.corner of Third St. and Laurel Ave, on Lots 1 and 2 Block 5 Tier S, assessed
against the Wm. Tuggle Estate, and same was ordered referred'to the agent for this
property with the request that the necessary repairs be made.
The Commission was neat advised that nothing further had been done by the
Star Boat Line towards executing and carrying out the terms of the proposed lease
for the property at the foot of Myrtle Avenue on which is located the old dock of
Winn & Lovett Grocery Co.
Thereupon the City. Attorney was instructed to serve notice on Winn & Lovett
Grocery Company to demolish and remove this old dock within 60 days.
On recommendation of Municipal Judge and Chief of Police, the Commission
neat suspended $15.00 of the fine of H B.Coward, case No. 21525, sentenced in-the
Municipal Court under date of July 1, 1935, after which the meeting adjourned.
