Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
At this point Commissioner Shinholser signed the oath and acceptance of office
as City Commissioner for the three year term to Which he was elected at the General
Municipal Election of December 5th., 1933•
Minutes of Regular annual meeting of January 2nd. 1934, read and approved.
Current invoices for the month of December , 1933 properly audited and vouchered
as evidenced by vouchers Nos. 5689 through 5775, submitted, examined, approved and
payment ordered.
Monthly report of the Streets, Sanitation, Health, Water and Library Departments
for the month of December , 1933, submitted and examined.
Financial Statement and statement of revenues and expenditures during the
month of December 1933, submitted and examined.
Bank statements in all accounts properly reconciled, submitted and examined.
Commissioner Dumas next moved that payment of dues for the year ending
June 30, 1934, to the Florida League of Municipalities, amounting to $50.00, be made.
Seconded by Commissioner Speer and carried.
Report next made of a proposed CPA project whereby brick salvaged from the
relaying of the brick pavement on Sanford Avenue and Celery Avenue, be used to
construct a brick sidewalk along the East side of French Avenue from Fourteenth
Street south to High school, as a means of safety for the students now required
to walk in the street.
Thereupon Commissioner Dumas moved that the salvaged brick be contributed by the
City for this purpose, provided the CWA furnish the labor, furnish grades, etc.
Seconded by Commissioner Speer and carried.
The Clerk next reported request received from Rev. McPherson of the Full Gospel
Tabernacle, that the City Commission pass an ordinance prohibiting the sale of
indecent and obscene magazines and books in the City of Sanford similar to that
enacted by the City of Orlando.
Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that the City Attorney be instructed to
prepare an ordinam a similar to that enacted by Orlando, for action at the next
Regular Meeting of the Commission..
Seconded by Commissioner Lehman and carried.

John G.Leonardy next appeared on behalf of the Beauty Parlor operators requesting
the enactment of an ordinance regulating this profession in the City of Sanford.
Matter taken under consideration.
S.D.Highleyman next appeared on behalf of the Entertainment Committee of the
Chamber of Commerce, with reference to the President's Birthday Anniversary Ball to be
given on January 30th., the net proceeds from which are to be given to the Warm Springs
Georgia Four..cacion for the cure of Infantile Paralysis.
Thereupon Commissioner Speer moved that the City contribute $15.00 in order that
a suitable location for this ball may be obtained.
Seconded by Commissioner Dumas and carried.
R.J.Holly Jr. next advised the Commission of plans of the State Board of Health,
to replace, in conjunction with the CWA all existing sanitary toilets when located more
than two hundred feet from a sewer, with the new type approved by the State, ard- re-
questing an appropriation from the City for the cost of materials, the CWA to furnish
all labor.
Action deferred pending receipt of definite information as to the amount the
City will be called upon to pay.
City Attorney Wilson was also instructed to investigate and advise at the next
regular meeting the requirements of the State Law with respect to this matter.
City Attorney Wilson next reported the inability of the County to combine with
the City on foreclosure of delinquent tax certificates due to the provisions of the
Futoh Bill prohibiting such foreclosure by the County.
City Attorney Wilson was next instructed to prepare ordinance for passage at the
next regular meeting of the Commission requiring that anyone engaged in the trade of
a plumber shall pay the same license as the Plumbing Contractor.
The Clerk was next instructed to write the Florida Power & Light Company with a
view to ascertaining the possibility of the City purchasing current, delivered at the
switchboard, for lighting of the City -owned Whiteway System.
Communication read from George M.Shipp, Machinist applying fear appointment to
fill any vacancy which may occur in his particular line of work, and same was ordered
placed on file:.
Communication from E.D. Duncan, prisoner in the City Jail, requesting suspension of
balance of sentence.
In view of lack of favorable recommendation by the Municipal Judge, request refused.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
