010234MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, January 2nd. 7:30 P Y 1934 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in Regular Annual Session at the City Hall in Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 O'Clook P.Y. January 2, 1934. approved. Present: Commissioner V.A.Speer, Mayor. " T.L.Dumas " W.A. Leffler N H.J.Lehman City Attorney Fred R.wilson City Clerk, F. S. Lamson, Chief of Police, R.G.Williams Absent: Commissioner S. O. Shi nholser. Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Minutes of adjourned regular meeting of December 26th. 1933, read and Discussion neat arose as to that part of the agreement with the County for housing the City prisoners in the County Jail, whereby the City is to pay 50% of all expenses of the Jail in excess of $1800.00 Thereupon the Clerk was instructed to obtain at regular intervals statements of the operating costs of the jail in order that the City may keep informed as to any liability which may accrue under this clause of the agreement with the County Commissioners. There being no further business, on motion of Commissioner Leffler, seconded by Commissioner Dumas and carried, the meeting adjourned sine die. The Commission then re- convened for purposes of organization; Commissioner Dumas signing the oath of office for a three year term. The first matter of business being the election of a Mayor, Commissioner Lehman offered the name of Commissioner Leffler as Mayor for the ensuing year. At this point Mayor Speer announced that he would not be able to serve another term and was therefore not a candidate for re- eleotion. Commissioner Dumas then seconded the nomination of Commissioner Leffler. There being no further names offered, the nominations were ordered closed, and upon the vote being taken, Commissioner Leffler was unanimously elected Mayor, of the City of Sanford, Florida, for the year 1934. Thereupon Commissioner Leffler signed the oath and acceptance of office as Mayor of the City of Sanford, Florida, and took the Chair. At this point each of the Commissioners present thanked Commissioner Speer for his untiring efforts while serving as Mayor and complimented him upon the very efficient manner he had handled the duties of this office. Mayor Leffler next requested Commissioner Dumas to continue representing the City upon the Seminole County welfare Board as well as on the Local CIA Council and Commissioner Speer to continue the overseeing of the CIA sewer project whereby 199 MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, January 2 -21-30 P Y 1 9-3-4 approximately 20,000.Ft.of the City's sewers are being replaced.
