022320REGULAR MEETING OF iH CITY COMYISSIONERS February 23rd.1920
Meeting called to order by Mayor H R Stevens at Eight o'clock P.M.
Present: HR Stevens, S. 0. Chase and C.E. Henry, G. A. Abbott City Manager.
The regular order of business tiyaa temporarily dispensed with for the purpose of
advising with a delegation of citizens present requesting information in regard to the
granting of a franchise for the purpose of operating an Electric Lighting and Power Plant
in the City of Sanford to a group of local men. The Commission assured these gentelmen tha
the City Attorney would be asked to render an opinion on this ratter at as early a date
as possible. After a general discussion of the matter the regular order of business was
resumed and the minutes of last meeting we'ite read and approved. Communication from Attor-
ney Landis concerling the designation of a newspaper in the City of Sanford for the adver-
tisement of delinquent taxes was read and on motion of S. 0. Chase seconded by C.E. Henry,
the Commission designated as such ne r, spaper the Sanford Herald of the City of Sanford, Fla.
Communication from City Attorney Landis in regard to case of the City vs.Montez
Harris released on a writ of Habeas Corpua by Judge E F Householder Commissioner for the
Circuit Court and advising that the City will have to pay the court costs in said case was
read and ordered filed.
Petition from Mr John Musson at al requesting the construction of a sewer in alley
west of French Avenue bet:Taen Ninth and Tenth Streets was read anti referred to the City
Manager for its investigation ana report to next meeting. Petition groin the Valdez Hotel
Company for a cement walk connecting side walk in front of the Hotel Valdez with side walk
extending northward from First Strut on east side of Park Avenue was read and the matter
reformed to City Manaoar with authority to construct same.
Communication from the Ball Hardware Co-requesting privilege of using Lake front for
the purpose of Fancy shooting was read and City Manager was authorized to giver permission
Communication from Mr F T Mahoney was read and referred to City ALtorney,Communica.tion
from Mr John D Jinkins regarding property of Sanford Lodge N0.62 F & A. M. being exempt
from taxation was read and referred to City Attorney. Communication from Mr T E Wilson at
al regarding the opening of Elm Avenue from Thirtaanth Stre -t south to Orange Heights etc.
was read and also a communication from City Engineer giving the estimated cost of same and
the matter wa.s laid over to the next meeting
the matter of a cow sold from the Pound on January 16 1920 for $35-.'_-O as unknown
Mr F N Estrige found to »e the owner :) same the amount of sale lass the costs of same
111.75 were ordered refunded to Cdr Estrige and tna Auditor and Clerk was instructed to
draw warrant to pay same in the amount of $23.25
Mahar of Cornelia Royal regarding payment of water rent by old City Council was
referred to City Manager. Matter of John Hamb,:ine personal taxes ,Clerk was instructed to
write City Attorney in regard to same.
