101820SPECIL MEETING (F CITY COMMISSION October 18 1920 The City. Commission met in Special Session Monday October 18th 1920 at 7:30 P if Present H R Stevens, Mayor, C. E. Henry and S• O. Chase Commissioners , G G Herring City Attorney and C J Ryan City Manager. Meeting was called by the Mayor for the purpose of determining whether-or not it shall be necessary to hold a Primary Election and to determine that candidates if any have qualified according to the provisions of the City Charter for nomination for the office of City Commissioner. After careful examination of the petitions filed with the City Auditor & Cleric by Mr S 0 Chase. and Mr Frank L Miller and having checked the manes of the signers on both petitions against the roll of qualified registered voters as borne of the City Registration books up to and inoluding. the Thirteenth day of October 1920 A.D. and having ascertained the whole number of qualified registered Voters to be six- hundred and seventy =f our ( 674) and that 25� of this number to be One hundred sixty -nine (1691 the required number to sign a petition for nomination, and ,that the number of qualified'. registered voters signing the petition of Mr S 0 Chase being Two hundred thirty -th ;ee (233) and that the number of qualified registered voters signing the petition of Mr. Frank L faller being One hundred thirty -two (132) the.following resolution was offered by Commissioner C E Henry and seconded by Commissioner H R Stevens Resolution declaring it not necessary to hold a Primary Election to nominate Candidates for the Office of City Commissioner of the City of Sanford Florida: Declaring 9.0 Chase,whoso petition was the only one filed that conformed to the re- quirements of Law, the Nominee for the office of City Commissioner of the City of Sanfo Florida; and authorizing and directing the City Auditor & Clerk to cause the name of S. 0 Chase to be printed upon the official ballot to be used in the Municipal Election to be held on the First Tuesday after the First Monday in December A.D.1920. Whereas,it will be necessary to hold a Municipal Eleotion on the First Tuesday after the First Monday in December.A.D.1920 to elect a City Commissioner too fill the vacancy made by the expiration of the term of Office of one of the present Commissioners; and Whereas,under the provisions of Section 217 of the Chatter of the City of Sanford Florida, the date for filing petitions by candidates for the office of City Commissioner of the City of Sanford Florida has passed; and Whereas,the petition of S.Q.Chass is the only petition that has been fil with t he City Auditor and Clerk that complies with the requirements of section 217 of the Charter of the City of ,Sanford Florida,and Whereas,under the provisions of Soption 219 of the Charter of the City of Sanford Florida,where less than three candidates file their petition it is not ne- R oessary to hold e; Primary Eleotion,and it is made the duty of the City Commission to declare the person or persons who have filed petitions that conform to the requirement, of law in such oases .1nude-and provided ap the nominee or nominees for the office of City Commissioner at the regular Municipal Election; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION (F THE CITY OF El of I .. 0 SANFORD FLORIDA: That it.is not necessary to hold a Primary Election and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That S 0 Chase be and he is hereby declared to be the Nominee for the office of City Commissioner of the City of Sanford Florida to be voted for at the Regular Annual Municipal Election to be h6ld on the First Tuesday after the First Monday in December A D 1920,and the City Auditor & Clerk is hereby authorized and direo- ted to cause the naupe of S 0 Chase to be printed on the official ballot to be used by al; Electors in the Municipal Election to be held on the First Tuesday after the First Monday in December A D 1920.
