HELD AT T~VO O'CLOCK P ~{ ON AGUST 29, 1927.
~The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the
City Hall in Sanford Florida at Two O'Clock P M on August 29th 1927.

The minutes of the meetings of the City Cor.~nission held at two O'Clock P .'.~ on August
26th 1927 and at E[oht O'Clock P E on Au$~st 26th 1927 were read and a~:proved.
Prof. Lawton ~De~red before the Board and stressed the i~oort~nce of retzi~dng the
services of the City ~urse. Prof. L~wton then brought to the ~ttention of the Commission the
fact that the Board of Educs. tion held ~s security time wa_~nts~ of the C~ty' of S~nford, Flori~
in the s~u of '~'
~7,~25.00 and requested th~,~t the pe~yment of these w~rr~nts be given i~mediate
z~ent[on. The Commission i~ormed Prof. L~wton theft it would be impossible for the City
to m~ke ~ny definite assurances zs to the retirement of any City ~7~rr~ts ~til after the
cor~letion of the ~udit now being made of the City's books.
U~on recon~eud~tion of the L~unicipal Judge, a p~role was gr~nted to Joe B~nett,
during good behavior, B~rnett h~ving served thirty d~ys of ~ sixty dzy sentence.
~e Commission then proceeded to he~r complaints against the s~ssessed valuation of
re~l property in the City of Sanford, Florida, for the year 1927,-28
~[r ;~[ F Robinson ~pp~red before the Commission with reference to ~ssessment
Blocks l~ and 22 of C & T. Addition and asked that the ~ssessment be placed ~t $10.00 for the
year 1927-28 ~s said blocks were over ~sse~sed las~ year. Action on this m~tter wzs deferred
until ~ joint conference could be h~d with the City Cor~ission znd the Assessors.
Mrs Belle Check ~Dpc~red before the Co~mnission with :~eference to ~ssessment ag~i~ t
Blocks l, l~ ~nd 2N on French Avenue ~ud the south 5 3/4 ft. of Lot 6 ~nd lot 7 of Block
of tier i of S~ord, and requested ~ reduction in the ~ssess~nent for this property.
Action on thi~ m~tter w~s also deferred until ~ joint coherence could be h~d~.z~n"~ the ~zty
Commission and the Assessors.

and asked that the assessment agai;~t property ovmed by the Hotel Company in First Street
Extension be cut in hal£ as the T:.~x Com:uission over-looked the f~ct in assessing the propert~
that the lots were only twenty-five feet wide ?~nd based their valuation on fifty foot lots i
'~is matter was also referred to a joint co.~erence with the City Commission and the Tax
C o :m'~i ss ion.
Action was also deferred on the complaint of .~.:r J D Hood with reference to assess-
ments az?~i'-~t i?roperty of Lake Front In~icrovement Co;:rpany, and also on the ~'mtter of the assess-
ed valuation in %?est Si~!e Bulkhead District, which is to be revised; and also 'the matter of the
assessment aC lust property located at Third Street and )~aSm. olia Avenue owned by J D Ds~ison.
At the request of ~r :? !_~ Young, who ~ppeared before the Commission with regard to lots
A B and C. Hi,hi. and Park which lots are used for park purposes, after the ex~!a~nation of
Lir Young that in selling lots in Highland Park, all owners of property therein , under his
contracts of sale, have the right to the use of Lots A , B a~.d C. for park ?~poses, for 'the
year 1927-~it was ordered that said Lots A,B and C. be exempt i'rom taxes as park property.
The Chief of Police Roy G ?';illia~us, was granted a thirty day leave of absence by the
City Co;muission, Lieutenant Bec~,.~m~h to serve a., Chief during the aose~me of Chief ~7illian~.
~.e City i~:anager brought before the Co~ranis si on several routine matters relative
to the ~olf course, the gas and water plants.
~e City ~ger was directed to furnish the City Co:nmission with a complete list
of all automobiles o%rned by the City, the approximate value of said ears sff~d the amount
of insurance carried. On motion of Co;mnissioner Chase, which unanimously prevailed, the City
L'anager was i~tructed to have all motor equipment, except the car of the City l~lanager,
distinctively marked with the name of the City of Sanford Florida, and the I.:unicipal Depart-
ment to which each car belonged, and also to have the oar of the Chief of the Fire Department
mainted bright red, with name of the department ~,~ainted on both sides in gold.
City Commission then entered upon a consideration of the budget for the next fiscal
year.
On motion duly made and carried, the meeting adjourned until two O'Clock P !~ August
30th 1927, at which time the City Conm%ission will meet with the Tax Co~'~mission to consider
the complaints agaimt the assessed valuation of real property for the year 19_P77~[
