A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF tANFORD, FLORIDA, PROVIDING FOR THE WIDENING OF FRENCH AYE~UE IN SAID CITY FROM 13th STREET SOUTH TO GENEVA AVENUE, AND FOR THE WIDENING OF GENEVA AVE~UE IN SAID CITY FROM FRENCH AVEhUE EAST TO THE CORPORATE LImit'S OF THE CITY OF SAMFORD, A~D ALSO REQUESTING SEMINOLE COUNTY FLORIDA, TO DECICATE CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY FOR THE WIDENING OF SAID FRENCH AVENUE AND GENEVA AVENUE. Attorney E.F.Housholder next appeared on 0shelf of the lOoeX retail liquor sealers with reIerence ~o the application of Lewis A.Tate for permit to sell liquors et corner of South ~'rencn Ave. and S~ete Road No. 3, and requested the Commission not to revoke Ordinance No. 312, limiting the numOer of permits and licenses ~o vendors of alcoholic bever- ages, except beer and wines, but that his clients would not object to said ordinance being amended so as to allow one aaaitional permit for the present population of the City, which governs the limitations on such permits. Attorney G.W.Spencer, representing Mr. Tats, next requested the Commission to amend section 3 of Ordinance No. 256, restricting the area in wn~n liquors c~n be sold, so as to include the location at corner of South French Avenue and State Road No. 3. Thereupon after consiaerable discussion, both matters were taken under advisement, pending recommendatzons of the City Zoning Commission. On recommendation of Sup~. ~oughton, and on motion oi' Commissioner Hill, seconded by Commissioner Gut and carried, ~ne Commission nex~ authorized a wage increase of .25 per day lot all colored employees and. 35 per day 1or all White employees paia on a per diem or weekly basis, eI~ec~ive as of Oc~ooer 6, 19~. The committee heard reports and recommendations on this suoject from Herman Morris, Principal of ~he Senior High School; Earl Kipp, Principal o~ ~he Junior High School; Major Waldron , of ~ne Salvation Army, and Por~er Lansing, director of ~he Lion's Club case ball league. I~ is tne recommendation of the committee that the City appropriate $1200.OO for ~ne 1~-~5 season; $600.O0 for ~ne salary o~ ~ne Recreatxonal Director and ShoO.cO Ior new equipment and repairs ~o existing equipment. Communication next read from Mrs Eric Nordgren with reference to the arrest of herself and husband on Saturday night, September 23,1~, at the Town Tavern for being drunk and disorderly, claiming that neither of them were drunk and disorderly, that they were carried to the Police Station and locked in jail without being allowed to post bond or use the telephone to call Mr. Nordgren's employer, and that she was man- handled and mistreated by the police officers in making the arrest. Thereupon after considerable discussion, and on advice of Chief of Police Williams that Mr. and Mrs Nordgren were arrested upon complaint of the proprietor of the Town Tavern and that she was convicted in the ~unicipal Court on September 25, 194~, for the aforesaid charges of being drunk and disorderly, the Commission directed Chief Williams to make a further investigation of the case and endeavor to secure statements from all persons who witnessed the arrest, for further consideration by the Board. Communication next read from %he Town of Oviedo advising that they had decided against purchasing the Dodge Pickup Truck loaned them by the City for their Fire Department. Thereupon after careful consideration, and on advice of Fire Chief Cleveland, the Commission authorized the aforesaid truck transferred to the Fire Department to be converted into a chemical truck for use in fighting fires. On motion duly carried, the Commission next authorized W.S.Earle to m~ke a survey of th~ MINUTES CiTY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, 0ctgber 9, at 7:30 P~19 4~ On motion of Commissioner Bishop, seconded by Commissioner Hill and carried, the Commission next authorized the purchase of 6 revolvers, 25 police billies , and 500 ~ounds__ of ammunition for the Police Department for emergencies that may arise from riots etc. In accordance with Section ~ of Ordinance No. 27% governing electrical construction., Commissioner Lodge next moved that E.B.Randall, Jr. Master Electrician , D.C.stafford, Journeyman Electrician, and G.L.Duncan, Electrical Inspector, be reappointed as the Boerd of Examiners for the ensuing year. Seconded by Commissioner Bishop andcarried. On motion duly adopted, Fire Chief Cleveland wes next authorized to obtain bids for furnishing uniforms and shirts for the firemem.
